Hi, I'm Paul Hirsh, jazz musician. My musical career has been about trying to find the ideal instrument for improvisation. One that would follow your inspiration wherever it takes you, even to places you've never been before.
My aim was to be able to play "like singing in the shower". The instrument had to be intuitive to learn, like your own voice.
And the nearest I came to that ideal has been the wholetone-tuned panpipes.
Over the years I ordered instruments made for me from the best European panpipe makers, but for various reasons I ended up using my 3D design skills to develop my own steamlined models.

I have invested a lot of savings on prototypes, each costing between 400 and 700 euros in order to arrive at the ideal streamlined design, to optimise the instrument's response, ease of playing, and correct tuning.
This is obviously more than most people are willing to pay, so my aim is to get them into production so they can retail at a much lower price.
The wealth of production solutions available today means that I have to do serious research to get the best quality and the best deal before setting up a finance target for the next stage.
The best place to do this is at the Euromold 3D printing and moldmaking trade fair in September, where I can take my prototypes and talk face-to-face with providers about the technical niceties of the project, and of course, price.
I feel these instruments could be a great choice for schools, as kids love panpipes and are often willing to invest more effort into learning them.
Contributors to this funding campaign will earn credits for goodies in the ensuing production crowdfunding campaign, which will include instruments and Skype lessons.
