Tracy's brain surgery care fund

A close friend of ours is a single mum with a young daughter and is having brain surgery in January. She just found out before Christmas and has been trying to arrange childcare, as well as her own care, for after hospital. Her recovery will take a few months and she will need 24-hour care for the first few weeks, then some level of ongoing support until she is back on her feet. She may need further treatment depending on biopsy results but hopefully it won't come to that.

Her family and friends will mind her little girl, but they can't cover the full 24-hour care or long term regular support hours that she herself will need. Private home care costs €25 per hour, so she is going to have a lot of unexpected expense. A few of us would  like to try to raise funds to help with her costs. It’s a way to offer some practical help and make her recovery easier.

Thanks so much for all the support so far,
Mandy xx

Hi everyone, just a quick update. My biopsy results were not what we were hoping for unfortunately, but I'm not facing into immediate chemo or radiotherapy, just close surveillance for now thankfully. There has also been an unexpected complication post-op which is delaying recovery, so I really can't say enough how grateful we are for your support. Honestly, it has taken so much worry away, and has really helped family and friends too by removing some of the load on them in terms of help and support they're giving us. Onwards and upwards. With thanks and all our love, Tracy and Sophie xxxx

Hi everyone, just a quick note to thank you all for your support over the last few months. I had my op on 18th April and I'm very glad to say I'm home now, after a month between hospital and convalescent care. Thank you so much for your kindness and support, I can't say how much we appreciate it - it has, and will continue, to make life alot easier as we can get the help we need at home until things are back to normal. With thanks and much love, Tracy and Sophie xxxx

Hi All,

Tracy's surgery was pushed out in January as more tests and scans were being carried out, and was further delayed by the nurses' strike over the last few weeks. While they review the results, her team have opted to hold off the surgery and keep her on "watchful waiting" where she will be closely monitored. The review is still ongoing, and she'll have a better idea in the coming weeks of what's going to happen. We'll post another update here as soon as we know more. Thanks again to everyone for their continued support.

Thank you all again for your most generous donations. Just to update you - the surgery has been rescheduled for clinical reasons, and will now take place towards the end of the month (provisionally). We will update again closer to the time.
