A Wheelchair For Scooter

Don protégé

As many have seen, I've recently posted pictures of a new puppy on FB. His name is Hercules! Herc is 1 of 4 puppies that came from Miss Sweet Pea, or Ms. Pea for short, a Blue Heeler mix stray that D'Kota found wandering the street in front of our local grocery store; however, this post isn't about Herc, but one of his sisters. Scooter.

When D'Kota found her she was starving and didn't have any tags on her collar so he decided to take her home and care for her until he could find her home. After posting on fb and asking friends to spread the post, no one came forward to claim her. The first few days were hard on Ms. Pea. She was sick to her stomach for the first 2 days, throwing up trash she had eaten on the street. She began too eat and drink after the 3rd day and started to perk up.

A week later though D'Kota began to notice she was filling out, but he thought she was carrying her new gained weight in a weird way. The next week we found out that Ms. Pea was pregnant. Since no one had come forward to claim her, D'Kota made the decision to continue caring for her until she had her puppies. Once the puppies were old enough he would find them and their momma a new home.

A week later, Ms. Pea began to go into labor, but their were complications. After almost 6 hours, the first pup started to come. Ms. Pea however seemed to be having trouble birthing the pup. Eventually she became very distressed and still was unable to birth the pup. D'Kota loaded her up and rushed her to the vet. It turned out the puppies were too big for her to give birth to naturally. The only option was to have an emergency c-section.

After two nerve racking hours there was a litter of four beautiful and spunky pups. Two of the puppies were born with deformities though. Toothless was born with 1 front leg that hadn't fully developed (no paw), and Scooter was born with no front legs. Three days later one of the puppies, D'Kota called her Susan, began to act as if she wasn't well. An hour after he took Susan to the vet, he got the call that she didn't make it for unknown reasons. As D'Kota said, "You were not here for long, but you were loved." In those three days, she was loved very much.

Almost three months later Herc, Toothless and Scooter are all doing well. D'Kota was able to find a great home for Toothless, but Scooter is still with him. As Scooter has grown, shes is having difficulties moving around. To get from point A to B, she has to push herself up on her back legs and bunny hop across the floor on her chest. Unfortunately this seems to be causing some issues with one of her shoulder nubs that has a bit more bone structure than the other. The only option for her to move freely, have a normal quality of life, and to avoid any joint damage to her hips is to get her a wheel chair. After the cost of the vet visit, c-section, and vaccinations, finding the money to buy the beautiful girl a wheelchair is difficult.

Last night I had the idea to start a GoFundMe page in hopes that we can buy Scooter an adjustable wheel chair that will grow with her. We would love nothing more that to give this amazing little dog the chance to run, play and enjoy her life to the fullest! We are kindly asking if anyone can, please donate for Scooter's wheelchair. Every penny means we are one penny closer to seeing Scooter a happier, healthier pup!

Thank you for the time you've taken to listen to her story, and please know that any donation you can make is very much appreciated.
