A Wheelchair Conversion for Matteo
$25,726 of $20,000 goal
Meet my handsome nephew Matteo. Matteo was only 3 months old when he started having his first seizures and he continues to do so every day, in multiples, he is now 5 years old. It has taken a toll on his body effecting his eyesight, speech and Matteo's developement, he has not had the everyday milestones a child should have, the things that we can all take forgranted. The everyday illness that we can handle sees Matteo going to the hospital where he can stay for days with his parents taking turns to sleep on the couch to stay by his side.
Matteo is mostly non verbal and is restricted to his play pen, his walker, stroller and his soon to be wheelchair. Matteo has amazed us with his grip in holding his own bottle, standing for moments at a time and can take a few steps at a time to come and give us all cuddles, he also has an adorable giggle when his dad makes him laugh. Matteo is on a special strict diet that he is fed, he takes multiple medication on a daily basis and each week he will go between routine physio, speech therapy, hydrotherapy and multiple doctor and specialist appointments.
Matteo is about to turn 6 this June and its only been in the recent months they have found the gene that has been the cause of his seizures and developemental delay with no cure, in fact, he is so far the only one documented with this mutated gene.
Soon Matteo will be getting his first wheelchair as he has outgrown his stroller. With Matteo growing and unable to support his weight he is very heavy, making the simple task of carry him very hard for his parents and carers.
Belinda and Angelo own a car that has the ability to be converted so that Matteo can have direct access into the vehicle whilst still sitting in the comfort of his wheelchair and without the need for him to be lifted in and out each time. To have this conversion done will cost just over $21,500!
I am around Belinda often with Matteo and she always sees the positive, she has strength, love, patience to be admired and day in and day out she shows us the courage to keep going and provide the best she can for her son. Matteo is a blessing to our family and brings us all joy and hope, especially to Belinda and Angelo who have supported eachother wholeheartedly throughout Matteo's journey.
I would like to ask if you could kindly donate what you can so that the wheelchair conversion does not cause financial strain for Belinda and Angelo and they can continue to use their earnings on his medication and future healthcare and rehabilitation. Any amount would be greatly appreciated and would mean so much to make everyday life a little easier for their family.
Thank you xx Sarah, Daniel and his cousins Kobe and Elijah
Great news, Belinda and Angelo picked up their car this week after 4 weeks in the shop getting the conversion. Already they have noticed how much easier it is to get Matteo out and about.
Thankful again to everyone that made this happen, such a difference you have made to their family.
Doing this will make life easier getting out and about and more comfortable for Matteo and relieve the financial pressure from them.
Any extra money raised will be kept for Matteo for his future healthcare and medication.
Thank you again for making such a difference and will be sure to post a pic of his first test ride
Thank you again and please continue to donate and share. Big love and hugs xx
