Yá’át’ééh (Hello)

It is with love and art in mind, that I am pleased to announce that I will be presenting my ongoing series, A Vernacular Response, at the 2019 Native American & Indigenous Studies Association Conference | June 26-29, 2019 at the University of Waikato in Hamilton, New Zealand!

Inspired by the journey, I am delighted to share this amazing moment with you as I would not be here without your ongoing support.  In truth, the love and encouragement I have received within my life from family, friends, colleagues, mentors, and our community is truly a blessing. In light of this, each donation of $35/above shall receive a commemorative set of five (5) postcards featuring images from A Vernacular Response!

A Vernacular Response (AVR) is an ongoing photographic series of images of and within the Navajo Nation offering both a personal and distant representation of culture, community, and creation. Moving forward, the series is developing into a framework founded on aesthetics, history, and social issues within Navajo art and life. As such, the series will be presented within a collaborative panel discussion: Photography & Diné: The Archive, Fragmentation, Circulation, and Nexus within Contemporary Photographic Practice.

In addition to Hamilton, New Zealand, AVR has the opportunity to exist in new parts of the world. As an artist, curator, and community member, I look forward to sharing this life-changing experience.

Overall,  A Vernacular Response not only represents me and my home, but it also represents an idea; an identity; a history; and a future. With respect to that above and to you, I acknowledge and express my sincerest gratitude to all who have informed and inspired me throughout my life and continue to do so.
