Hello everyone!
Dan Marenda and I (Kirsten Kaschock) are professors at Drexel University. One of my students recently introduced me to a local family: Ricci and her five children are facing homelessness because of domestic abuse and a predatory landlord situation. We met this remarkable young mother and her beautiful children and wanted to help. Patience (13) is a rock, working with her mom to keep the younger ones (Charlie-7, Isabella-5, Ava-4, and Faith-1) entertained and happy--we sang no less than five Disney songs on the way to transporting them from unsafe housing to a clean hotel for the night. Ava's favorite song is "Let it Go." I know because we had to listen to that one twice. The kids (except Faith) all carried their own bags and were warm, polite, and ready for an adventure--another in one of a long list of new places they've moved to since they lost a permanent residence over a year ago, soon after Ricci lost her mother to cancer.
We are trying to quickly get them set in a small apartment with a few months rent up front so that the kids might be able to return to school and Ricci begin to augment their income.
The picture is of Danny and me with Patience, Isabella, Charlie, and Ava--Ricci was putting Faith to bed after a long day.
Any amount of money you can offer will make a difference to this young family, just trying to stay whole as they deal with a series of setbacks.
