This is going to be the official donation page for gifts for my friend who is trying to get back on his feet (economically speaking). I had no original intention of soliciting donations, but the overwhelming, warm response to my story has really left me with no choice. I'm blown away by the immediate, passionate generosity of friends, family and those that have heard about my friend "through the grapevine."

Here is a link to the original Facebook post that led to all this: Holiday Help

A few notes about this:

You might be wondering, "Wait... why is he asking for $5,000 when he said that he thought he would need $1,500?"

The simple answer is that I totally underestimated how people would respond to this, and because I did that I didn't come close to "dreaming big enough" for my friend. Truth is, beyond $1,500 there are plenty of things that could be done to bless him and others around him who are homeless. The goal here is somewhat open-ended. Whatever is taken in will be used very carefully to empower 1 or more wonderful people to move forward with their lives. Whether it's $1,500, $5,000 or $10,000... there's a ton of need, and I appreciate the immediate trust that people have had for me in this situation. So, you can basically ignore the ask amount. If you feel led to give to this "cause" then have at it. I'll take responsibility for making sure that any amount gets put to good use.

You also might be wondering, "Well, you probably don't need to sell the footballs then, right?"

That's probably true, but that will still happen regardless of how much is given. When the decision was made a couple of weeks ago to move forward with this, our family was discussing the nature of the Christmas season and how we often focus on giving (which is great), but we often ignore the spirit of sacrifice that is built into the celebration of Jesus birth. The footballs are my own small sacrifice, and I hope that whoever gets them will be able to enjoy having or giving an awesome gift this year.

I'll continue to post on here if other questions come up, but for now just know that I'm extremely thanksful for everyone that is landing here. In less than 24 hours I've reconnected with a number of old friends that have come out of the woodwork, met some new people that I hope will become friends, and experienced a tremendous and moving show of love and generosity. I can safely say that I've already been blessed through this whole experience. Merry Christmas!
