A New Furnace for Abide Yoga

Donation protected
Abide Yoga is a (your!) neighborhood yoga studio  and part of the Larchmere Arts District adjacent to Shaker Square.    For over two years, Hope Hood, has invited us into this space to play, explore and strengthen our bodies and our minds.   She would never start a campaign like this, but that's just one of the reasons that I have opted to start one on her (and our collective) behalf!

The historic building that we reside within is unfortunately in the need of some repairs, including a working furnace for the space (there is currently no furnace and it will not be fixed by the building owners).   In past winters, and this one as well, we have done our best to keep our space cozy with space heaters and the covering of the windows, but Cleveland winters are no joke!   We pride ourselves on offering opportunities for daily passive practices, but  especially in those classes that stay low to the ground (specifically yin and restorative options) that warmth is needed and much appreciated by all.   For those morning classes, Hope usually wakes up at 5:45am and walks over to allow the place to start heating up before we show up for class!  Our system of space heaters works pretty well, but gives us little control over the situation and takes up valuable space when classes get full.

Abide does it's best to make yoga accessible, both in terms of practice and in cost for classes and monthly passes.  We try to be as affordable and generous as possible, but that also means that the cost of putting a furnace in the space is more than we can muster.

The investment of a new furnace for the studio would be around $4,000.00, a sum that is challenging for a small business but could be made more achievable by the generosity and support of a community who appreciates practicing here and those that are both willing and able to offer support to the studio and a contribution to our community as a whole.     Just as in yoga, small efforts build to be transformational, even a $5.00 donation from many supporters will grow to help us realize our goal.

If there are enough community members that are in a position to help (I know it's tough around the holidays!) I hope that we might raise enough funds to invest in the furnace by the end of January so we can all reap its benefits for the remainder of the long winter season.   Around this time we'll evaluate our progress and if we do not feel that we'll reach our goal during this winter season we'll put a portion of the money towards more blankets for the studio now, and then pick up the fundraising for next winter.

Thank you ALL for your interest, your support, and for practicing, growing and exploring with us.

Love,
Gwen (student and teacher at Abide Yoga)
