A Mission to Liverpool, UK

Hello Everybody!
My name is Christiana, and I am seeking support for my mission to Liverpool, UK with the Salesian sisters!

An essential part of Salesian spirituality is the idea of accompaniment- helping young people achieve things though practical and simple support. Today, I am asking for you to accompany me to the UK through your practical and simple support of my mission.

Called to Serve
Early in my career at The Catholic University of America, I poked my head into an auditorium and got pulled into hanging Easter decorations for a community outreach event later that day. The following semester, I found myself on the planning committee, and the semester after that I found myself in charge of ordering 45 trays of sandwiches, placing four digit orders on Oriental Trading, and attempting to figure out the most efficient way to stuff over 5,300 Easter eggs (hint: ample pizza is key).

Inspired by my experiences at CUA, I decided to embark on a year of service.

After serving for 5 months with Capuchin Corps Volunteer Corps (see my reflection on tutoring disadvantaged kids here! ) I felt called to peruse ministry in a new way- in a totally new environment. Several conversations and dozens of emails later, VIDES USA , a lay volunteer program run by the Salesian Sisters of Don Bosco, offered me a 5 month mission to Liverpool, UK! I will fly out in early March, and return to the US at the end of August.

I hope to evangelize children and young people separated from the Christian faith, and help asylum seekers find peace and security in the United Kingdom. To this end, the UK Salesian Sisters have assigned me several projects, including co-teaching classes on Salesian spirituality, promoting volunteerism among youth, running retreats, ministering to kids with cute British accents, and working with asylum seeking women and their children.

I would be deeply appreciative if you would consider accompanying me on my next mission, via prayers, financial support, or simply by sharing this page!

The Nitty-Gritty
The Salesian sisters are very kindly covering my room and board for the duration of my mission, but I am responsible for the following:
- Flights to and from Liverpool
- Visa fees/UK Healthcare premium, which are actually more expensive than a flight!
- Cell phone expenses
- Emergency fund
- Incidentals
Left over funds will be donated to VIDES USA + VIDES UK
