I've organized this gift fund on behalf of our dear friend Wendy Didrikson.  Wendy and her family continue to face many challenges as they navigate their way through her husband Brets illness.
Wendy is a lifelong mountain resident having grown up in Ahwahnee.  She and her husband Bret were high school sweet ❤️'S and all these years later continue that sweet love today.  Wendy and Bret have 3 children, a granddaughter and another grandbaby due to arrive at Christmas.  Wendy has taken on a new full time job at Chukchansi in addition to her spray tanning business at Mint Condition Salon.  Up until his illness Bret was Mauntenance Supervisor at the Redwoods in Yosemite.
Bret started with a cough about 3 years ago that came and went. He was mis diagnosed at that time with acid reflux until Oct of 2018 when he became short of breathe and ended up in the hospital in respiratory failure. He was stabilized after a week and came home with many tests to follow trying to get to the bottom of the problem.  He's  not a smoker or known to have been exposed to the common environmental components that are associated to lung issues. February 2019 he was again rushed by ambulance due to difficulties breathing and there he was diagnosed with interstitial lung disease which they think is hereditary.
Bottom line... he has deteriorated rapidly and needs a double lung transplant ASAP.
Today they were hoping to get him transported to UCSF for testing .  The transplant team will then meet and determine the direction they will go.
After transplant He will need to be in the hospital  for a minimum of 30 days,  then need a care team for 90 days  as an outpatient.
Their family will need to pay for housing which is about $100 a day, in addition to their financial obligations here at home.
They have no idea how long he will be there before he gets his transplant so their whole world is upside down with many  unknowns.

In Wendy's own words.......

One of our  daughters has left work to take care of Bret  during this time, traveling with him from kaiser to UCSF and being there around the clock for support and be his advocate. I have to work because our future is unknown. Starting a new job is difficult as I’m not through my probation period and I have to make the hard decisions of being there with him or keeping income for our household.
Bret and I have been together since I was 15 and he has always been my rock and the foundation to the family. This is harder than words can express but in times like these we find our inner strength and move mountains.... I will do what it takes to get our family through this and get Bret home to us ASAP !

Wendy is a woman of strong faith, positivity and true inspiration.  I ask our friends and community to help this beautiful woman move those mountains.  If you are unable to assist financially your prayers and positive thoughts are very appreciated because,  as we know mountains can be moved and miracles do happen ❤️.
