A Hip Replacement for Rosie
Donation protected
I was looking for a kitten for my daughter when I spotted this sweet black German Shepherd sitting calmly in her kennel at the shelter. As I approached her kennel, she wagged her tail and looked me straight in the eyes. I'm pretty sure she smiled. We brought her home the next day, and despite being in pain from the spaying earlier in the day, she wagged her tail as she lay on the dog bed recovering. While I like to think that my daughter named Rosie because of her rosy disposition, she was actually named for my daughter's favorite plant in our yard, a rosemary bush. Even so, Rosie's cheerful, calm, assured, sweet, loving demeanor has undeniably brought so much joy to everyone who meets her. She has soothed students in elementary and college classrooms, has helped to foster a guide dog in training, and brings smiles to people at local dog friendly establishments.
Unfortunately, this lovely girl has degenerative joint disease in her right hip that has been getting progressively worse. We have been trying to manage her pain through medication but it is getting to be so bad that she wakes up in the morning and yelps. She needs a total hip replacement to be free of pain, do the activities she loves again (like fetching balls and going to the beach) and to continue to bring joy to others by visiting schools, colleges and other public places. Generally, I am not one to ask for help, but we have had other major setbacks this year with extensive mold remediation in our home and medical expenses from being sick from mold. Unfortunately the timing is such that we cannot afford a surgery for dear Rosie.
This gofundme was inspired by my daughter and her friends planning a bake sale for Rosie at the end of last school year. Please join us at 7 Sisters Brewery in San Luis Obispo, CA on July 24 from 5-7 and meet Rosie and pick up a treat or two.
Thank you for any contribution. We would love to see Rosie be able to enjoy life again pain free.
