A Friend Facing Foreclosure
Donation protected
I started this campaign to help my friend and her family because nobody should have to feel insecure about where they will live. There are a lot of people in similar situations--hell, I was nearly one of them myself--and yes, this is a symptom of a much larger economic problem. But in the meantime, I want to do what I can to help my friend keep her home.
We met a year ago via G.I.S.H.W.H.E.S., an online scavenger hunt that encourages people to make art, shake things up in public, and change the world with kindness. The G.I.S.H.W.H.E.S. community regularly helps people who struggle with health issues as well as financial problems, and my friend has cheerfully done her part to help others. Now she is the one in need, and this is the best way I know to help.
My friend and her family need to raise money to get caught up on the mortgage on their home and avoid foreclosure proceedings. She is 100% aware that I am doing this on her behalf, but for personal reasons I am not using her name publicly. Feel free to contact me if this is information you must have in order to feel comfortable donating.
There are a lot of things that I suppose I could tell you about my friend: that she has her own health issues, that she and her husband have two small children at home, that their extended family is unable to help, etc. But most importantly, my friend is a wonderful person, providing a loving home with her amazingly supportive husband. They are both working tirelessly to improve their family's financial situation, while still giving back to others where they can. This small boost to their finances will be a huge burden lifted from all of them.
If there's anything I've learned from G.I.S.H.W.H.E.S. and those associated with them, it's that small acts of kindness can make a huge difference. Even a small donation to this campaign will make a big difference to this young family. And has someone who has experienced the same kind of struggle, I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Please help if you can, and share as you are able.
Thanks.
P.S. - In order to preserve my friend's privacy, I will be withdrawing the funds raised here and transferring them directly to her via PayPal. I had hoped to automate that through gofundme, but for transparency's sake they display her name. I'm adding this information in the spirit of further transparency, and so that you know exactly how your donation is getting where it needs to go. This is far from my first fundraiser--I'm frequently on Crowdrise raising money for Random Acts--and I want you to feel confident that your generous gift will be used exactly as intended. Thank you.
