A Fight Against A Devastating Plight

These are a few words to describe Mr. Jeff Gwinn II.

No family deserves to experience the hurt, pain, and turmoil that follows the cruel and senseless acts of another individual. Unfortunately, there are people in society who violate its laws and step onto the basic human rights of others. The consequences of these selfish choices are left for others to combat by themselves, even those who are unable to adequately do so. This is the reality for many victims of violent crimes and is the current reality for my very own family.
On Thursday, March 14, 2019, my step father, Jeff Gwinn II, was viciously attacked by an individual while doing what he has always done best; that is, work hard to provide for his family. Jeff has lived and worked in his community of Decatur, GA for over 30 years. He has invested himself totally in the social and economic growth of the area, having raised his children in Decatur and worked as an active citizen for all of his adult life. He has devoted his life to running his very own business, Cody Movers, where he prides himself on providing employment opportunities to his family, in particular his son and brother-in-law.
On the evening of his assault, Jeff visited the storage facility to prepare for the next work day where he was confronted by an individual sitting inside his work truck. After several failed attempts to convince the person to vacate his truck the individual lashed out in a mercilessly brutal attack. Jeff suffered 7 stab wounds as a result of the encounter, including blows to his neck and throat, and one to the leg that cut so deep the bone was fractured. Despite the nearly fatal wounds, his strength and his willingness to fight allowed him to miraculously drive himself to a nearby gas station where he was able to receive help right before losing consciousness.
Jeff was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital where he immediately went into surgery. He was placed in a medically-induced coma because of the severity of his wounds and he remains in that state today.
Every day Jeff is fighting for his life and with the love, care, and support of his friends and family, will continue to make strides toward total rehabilitation. That said, your prayers are greatly appreciated by the family, as this will be a long, hard journey to recovery for Jeff.
With this campaign we are seeking the aid of those who can offer support in helping to sustain Jeff’s current and future medical needs as a result of this tragic incident. From others who have been in similar situations or simply those who sympathize with my family, we are asking for contributions in any way they come. Another unfortunate reality is that Jeff’s resilience and want to recover is but one facet of the healing process. With the damage to his body and expected course of healing, it is imperative that he receives care that is best suited for his own condition. And, quality care is costly. Much costlier, than Jeff or our family is able to support. With that realization, we decided to use this platform to seek resolve, using our community, social and online network, to find the best care possible and ask for financial help to make getting that a possibility.
Just like you, our family loves and supports each other through good and bad times. We try hard to demonstrate love and kindness to each other and exhibit those traits as we move about in our everyday lives, much like our father taught us. Nevertheless, we understand that sometimes things are left out of our control, and we must do our best to respond to them as we are able. So, this is a plea to you made with that in mind, from a family faced with the consequences of an unconscionably evil act, who simply want to restore what was taken from us in the hatred exhibited on the night of our father’s assault.
