How does one describe a person who was bigger than life?  Milton Rajo  fits the bill.

Milton was a proud immigrant from Honduras who loved the freedom this country afforded him.  He came to this country when he was four years old to join his family in New Orleans.  And he did love New Orleans.  The music, the art and the festivals were his passion. He managed to capture these passions through his talented photography and videos.  His love for the city and the culture was only surpassed by the love for his family and friends.  He was so proud to be the father of Erika and Connor and bragged about them often to all who would listen.

And one could not help but listen to him.  He walked into a room and immediately commanded the crowd.  But the crowd were never strangers because he never met a stranger.  His magnetic personailty brought many people together.  His energy was addictive and even casual aquaintances were attracted to that force and light.

Please help our brother have a proper service, Unfortunately the family is not prepared for such a financial strain.  Anything, even a dollar, will be greatly appreciated.

Milton will be sadly missed by us all.  The world may just be a little bit duller, but heaven will sure rock.

Friends and family,

I can’t begin to express how moved I am by your show of support and generosity. Like so many of you, my dad’s passing has left me feeling shocked and overwhelmed by grief. These feelings were initially compounded by guilt and worry because I did not know how I could possibly give him the send-off he deserves. Because of all of you, I no longer have to worry about that, and I’ve been able to put together a celebration of his life that will reflect his colorful, loving, funky, New Orleanian spirit.

If you have not yet heard, the visitation will be held on Saturday, January 20th from 11:00-12:00 at St. Anthony of Padua (4640 Canal St. NOLA 70119) followed by a funeral mass at noon. The Soul Heirs will be there to jazz up the service because my dad would have it no other way. Immediately after, there will be a second line led by Soul Brass Band to Banks Street Bar and Grill, one of my dad’s longtime hangouts. There will be a tribute show/superjam performed by some of his favorite bands and musical guests from 2:00-7:00 p.m. In true Milton fashion, you can expect a hodgepodge of delicious food so come hungry. Lastly, please dress in colors to reflect my dad’s vibrant personality. Creativity is encouraged and costumes are welcome!

I hope all of you can make it. None of this would have been possible without your help, and for that I am forever grateful.

Love,

Erika
