A word from Jodie’s mum....
Our beloved youngest daughter, Jo is 25 years old. After several years of unexplained health problems, including hemiplegic migraine and depression, Jo suffered her 4th stroke in February this year. She was hospitalised for a week and given the devastating news that she has a brain tumour. She’s since had two cyber knife surgeries and continues to have weekly chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Throughout her treatment she has been a ‘warrior’ supporting other people who have been upset by her cancer diagnosis. She always puts on a brave face and jokes around to make everyone feel more comfortable around her diagnosis.
When Jo started playing for Bournville Warriors she was just 9 years old. Her team spirit and determined attitude meant she became the first team captain and was affectionately known as ‘Skip’, as nicknamed by coach Lisa Cockbill.
It’s ironic that Jo went on to work with young people and adults with varying complex physical and mental health needs. As a result she finds it hard to be the recipient of care. Jo is always there giving help and support to her family and friends despite what she’s going through herself. The first thing she did was phone around my friends asking them to look after me as she was sorry to upset me with her diagnosis!
We are planning to host a charity football match on Sunday 14th July between Bournville warriors and an Ex Aston Villa ladies squad plus special guests - with a view to raising money for Skip and her family as well a cancer charity donation
