A Climate to Thrive is providing hope, demonstrating that local action on climate change can have a tremendous impact.
Your financial support keeps this momentum going:
- Solar panels in Tremont will power all town buildings, and we’re evaluating several other sites across Mount Desert Island for large arrays.
- ACTT is facilitating the solarization of MDI High School.
- 50 restaurants have begun reducing food and plastic waste through our Sustainable MDI project. Next steps include reaching the island’s other 125 restaurants, plus the hospitality and retail sectors.
- Plastics in the Ocean film screenings and educational events support youth and local resident efforts to pass plastic bag ban ordinances in all four MDI towns (one down; three to go!)
- We installed six public EV charging stations and won another grant to double that effort in 2019–2020.
Now we’re taking our bold vision of energy independence by 2030 to the rest of Maine! Working with local Representative Brian Hubbell and Speaker of the House Sara Gideon, ACTT planned and led two visioning meetings for crafting a new comprehensive clean energy policy for Maine. The week after election day, we brought 30 policy leaders and energy experts to the Blaine House to develop strategies for educating legislators and encouraging bipartisan support for bills that remove obstacles from, and create incentives for, large-scale solar, wind, EV, and energy efficiency projects statewide.
