A Box Truck for Hurricane Relief

My name is Carlo, and I'm one of the volunteers operating out of the Mutual Aid Disaster Distro  in Durham, NC. Myself and other volunteers here have spent the last two weeks organizing non-stop in the wake of Hurricane Florence to provide mutual aid to folks who have been most affected by the storm.  We've sent uHauls and pick-up trucks out to the east coast with thousands of pounds of supplies, organized supply drives, worked with volunteer drop-sites, and have stocked the warehouse with a constant supply of desperately needed inventory like water, canned foods, baby supplies, and cleaning supplies.

Our ethics center mutual aid as our goal, not charity. Charity often involves a paternalistic mindset, where those who have access to critical resources try to decide what support will look like for those who are struggling.  We reject this position, and instead we affirm that those on the ground in the affected areas know best what kind of support they need and how best to receive it. Our work involves making contact with those folks, listening to their voices, respecting their wishes, and providing the support that they ask for. 
 
Right now, we need your help to expand the logistics of the space: we need vehicles! We're asking for your help in raising funds so that we can purchase  a used box-truck that will live on-site here at the distro. The truck will be used to schedule regular loads out to the coast to the communities we've made contact with.
