A ballerinas wish Russia trip
Hello My name is Nicole Townsend. I am sixteen years old, I have been dreaming of being a prima ballerina all of my life. It absolutely consumes me, it is the first thing that I do when I wake up in the morning and the last thing I do before I go to bed. I began taking ballet at age 2 in the "mommy and me" classes and started my
professional training at the Ballet San Jose School. When that school fell on hard times and closed and then restructured I was forced to search far and wide for comparable training. To find the best training I had to go 60 miles away to San Francisco where I found City Ballet School, a school founded on the Russian
Vaganova tradition. I needed a top notch school and City Ballet San Franscisco was rated one of the top schools in the Bay Area. I just had to attend this fabulous school some way some how! That's an hour of driving each way and a two hour drive during traffic time each way.
I cried for weeks pleading with my parents to enroll me. They surprisingly said yes and I currently take classes 6 days a week! I am an extremely hard working student highly disciplined and a high achiever academically.
In elementary school I was bullied by some kids that did not believe a person like me should pursue a life in ballet and were jealous that I also was a straight A student. I am currently a high school junior taking mostly AP classes still carrying an A average. I am told that I
could be the next Misty Copeland and am extremely inspired by her story and example. I would love the opportunity and experience of training in Russia at one of their top schools. This would be the experience of a life time please help me fund this trip. Ballet is one
of the most expensive activities to participate in. Everything from the required 6 day a week ballet training for the technical skills that are difficult to perfect without formal and frequent training.
Pointe shoes that are $100-140 and need a new pair every 3 to 4 weeks as well as ballet slippers and tights and leotards and hair accessories. Ballet has not always been welcoming to African American dancers citing a myriad of issues ranging from our hair, our bodies
and just our overall look but an opportunity such as this is indicative of the genre reaching out to us and I intend to make a difference I am 16 almost 17 and have had almost 15 years of ballet instruction. My dream is to become a professional dancer the end of my senior year! I desperately need your financial support in order to be able to fund this trip in the
most important ballet opportunity of my life and career! I know that my family cannot afford to send me on this trip but the chance to watch the Bolshoi Ballet in Russia and to attend classes at their academy is too great an opportunity to pass up!
Russia was the birthplace of Ballet and I would love to visit the roots of something I commit to my life everyday and give up so many things. The artistic director of our school is Galina Alexandrova who is my teacher and role model.
The cost of everything is: Visa ($120-140)
Passport: ($ 110.00)
Plane ticket: ($1,200-1,500) round trip.
Bolshoi tickets ($120-$155)
City excursion $80
School set up fee ($400-$800)
the rest of the money is for food & transportation.
I would appreciate any donations that you kindly give me because this is a dream that hopefully will come true! This trip is in February but I need to commit partial payment by the end of December!
Thank you so so much!
