‌Hi Everyone!

I, Zoe Hopson, am a sophomore at Deerfield-Windsor College Preparatory School and I have been invited to attend Stanford University’s High School Summer College and need your help! Stanford High School Summer College is a selective program that offers high-achieving students, ages 16 to 19, an eight-week college experience that provides academic, social, and intellectual opportunities. High School Summer College participants enroll as visiting undergraduates in Stanford’s Summer Quarter and take the same courses, taught by Stanford faculty members, as matriculated Stanford students. Stanford has always been my first choice for college and this is a great opportunity, especially since they have an excellent Neuroscience program, which is my passion. I am fixated on how our brains function and my career aspiration is to work in the field of medicine focusing on Neuroscience.

A little information about me:

I am a high-achieving sophomore student at Deerfield-Windsor School, a college preparatory school in Albany, GA, maintaining a 4.0 GPA.

I could go on and on about my extracurricular activities which include serving as a member of the Albany Chapter of Jack & Jill of America, Inc. where I currently hold the office of Vice President, a member of the DWS Yearbook Staff, a member of the DWS Key Club, a member of the DWS Academic Bowl, a participant in Miss DWS Pageant, a participant in school musical, a participant in the DWS Cultural Exchange Club
a participant in the Spanish Club, and a member of the Beta Club. I am also a member of the DWS Varsity Soccer Team.

Being a member of the DWS Academic Bowl Team allows me to travel the region participating and networking with other like-minded brainiacs. Most recently, I won first place in Essay Writing in All Grades and our team also won 1st Place in the Quiz Bowl.

Being on the Academic Bowl Team has also introduced me Brain Bowls, which are also competitions that allow opportunities for me to meet other students who also share my passion for science, medicine, and of course, the brain and how it works.

When I’m not focused on academics, I am devoted and very passionate about giving back to my community. I've consistently volunteered at elementary schools in Albany, as well as churches, community outreach programs, community functions, and during Thanksgiving and Christmas food and clothing drives. Being a member of Jack & Jill of America, Inc. further affords me to serve my community and also learn valuable leadership skills.

As a Youth Toastmasters participant, I was chosen to compete in the Albany Chapter’s Youth Blacks In Government Oratorical Competition, which I won and then went on to compete in the Regional and National Youth Blacks In Government Oratorical Competitions.

While participating in the BYE Summer Business Institute for high school students at Albany State University, I discovered that I didn’t have to be of-age to have a job and started my very own Peer Tutoring Program.

How You Can Help…

I am extremely eager to participate in this life changing experience and need your help. I need to raise $10,000 by Friday, May 27, 2016. I am hoping that you will consider helping me with a donation and help me get to Stanford for the summer.

Please know that all donations are appreciated; no donation is too small. Of course, there is no maximum donation but for your minimum donation of $10, you will receive a magnet, handmade by yours truly, of your choice. Just notate the item number in the comments section when you donate. Thank you again for your consideration and I will share my learning and experiences upon my return. Thank you for supporting me on my journey to higher education.

Sincerely,
Zoë G. Hopson
