Alex's home medical equipment



Our nephew  (son), Alex, is an achondroplasia dwarf with severe scoliosis and kyphosis. He is now 157 with the mind of a 10 year old.   Alex is me and my husbands nephew and we are also his guardians. Alex was neglected and abused his whole life, living in 14+homes until we rescued him. We were at Boston children's hospital having 8 week traction for his Third time, the first one was in May of 2014 This second in September of 2014.   We have three other children at home, one of them being Alex's brother whom we also got gaurdianship of who was also was admitted to Boston Childrens Hospital for mental health.  I have been out of work for over 5 years  now taking care of Alex Here at the hospital and at home. This second traction was a shock so needless to say that the third was completely unexpected! His body just did not want to cooperate with his neck rods which equals a failed surgery/8weeks in the hospital Two times for literally nothing! This time we are praying it works!!! Alex also had a few very big spinal fusion surgeries .  Alex had extension rods in his back, which now are permanent rods with rods in his neck and two special plates in his neck to support his head, which is what was failing.    Poor kid has such a big head which makes this so hard for the doctors and total lack of care as a child  so we are also trying to play catchup!  Our goal for Alex is to be pain free and be able to walk and see what's in front of him, eat and drink without choking and  be  secure with himself and not embarrassed all of the time with braces on his neck and head.   Hopefully one day live on his own.  alex is an amazing kiddo with such an amazing soul. Medical equipment for Alex is very expensive. Lots of equipment is needed in home for his safety.

One income has been a struggle.
