NM Suicide Prevention Training

Yellow Ribbon New Mexico is a statewide organization dedicated to preventing suicide in our communities and schools.

Yellow Ribbon New Mexico is raising funds to provide mental health/sucide prevention trainings across New Mexico at little or no cost. Our program serves as an empowerment tool for communities to begin combating the epidemic of suicide. We are hoping to secure enough funds to provide services for schools and communities (especially tribal commuities) in 2018. 

What we do:
*Ever watched the movie, "Inside Out?" Our elementary program is similar to this in that we help children identify early with their emotions/feelings and help them to identify heathy help seeking behaviors. We offer an elementary program for grades K-5, which includes evidence-based materials, curriculum, and lesson plans for teachers and students.

*We offer youth peer-to-peer training for youth in grades 6th-12th as well as teachers and school staff.

*We offer adults Gatekeeper training for adults, community members, and parents.

The statistics are alarming and show that suicide is the leading cause of death for 10-14 year olds in New Mexicois and our state ranking 2nd overall in national suicide deaths. Funding cuts for mental health services have been drastic and therefore opportunities to establish our program has been difficult. Yellow Ribbon is about saving lives and that will always remain our mission and focus. However, self-funding the program is becoming exteremly difficult to do and so, we are following our own motto, "It's Ok to Ask 4 Help," and reaching out to our family, friends, and supporters. 

Your support will go a long way in allowing Yellow Ribbon trainings to be implemented throughout New Mexico. Most importantly, your contribution will help to save a life! 

Yellow Ribbon New Mexico is part of the Yellow Ribbon International program, which was founded in 1994 by friends and family of Mike Emme who died by suicide at the age of seventeen.
