#YaMama to the Hollywood Fringe

Black women who are artists, shouldn't have to give up their passion, because they desire family too. Women are often shut out of access to the next tier of a career because they choose to have a family. Or, they are shut out of family because they decide to pursue a career first and then biology has a say. This shouldn't be the case. I have both, but to do both successfully, sometimes I need help. I want to pay the people who support my work because after all, their support is work too.

My name is Nina Domingue Glover. I am an actress, playwright, and director. I have been working in the theatre and film for 20 years, you know that overnight success story. Bringing stories to life is important to me, particularly the stories of women of color. This particular story is mine, as I have developed this project over time, audiences have shown me how much of it is universal. I want to share it with more people.
I am taking my solo show to the Hollywood Fringe Festival, and self-producing takes time, money and support. One of my partners in art is directing and co-producing for me. And though he would do it for free, I would like to pay him for his time, talent and expertise. He has been an ally, an advocate and my partner in the art for at least 15 years. When you have a shorthand with a fellow artist, who understands your work, it can make or break a project.

Being able to pay artists, who have worked hard to achieve expertise in their field, is monumental. So many times, we do it because we love it, for "credit on the resume" etc. But let's face it, we deserved to be paid for our time and our talent! I am not only an artist but an advocate for artists. So, I want to walk my talk. By helping me get "Ya Mama!" to the Fringe, you will be helping to support the arts in one of the most significant ways--resources.

What We Need & What You Get
Here's where the money goes: round-trip tickets to and from L.A., lodging, and food. New costume, props, programs and advertising. There are the Fringe fees, and space rental for the performance venue (which also covers our insurance). You'll be listed as a co-producer in the program, and receive a signed program from the show. All of the funds will go towards paying the Fringe fees and my support team.

The Impact
For actors looking at moving to or working in other markets being able to spend time in that market is valuable. Also, spending time in the market with work to share is even better, then people in the industry know you are serious, and not just hoping that it will work, but that you've been working on your goal. I've brought this show to the New York International Fringe Festival in the past, thanks to the support of people who love art.
