Earlier this year, Lena was diagnosed with advanced cancer after giving birth prematurely to their fourth daughther Julie at 11 weeks premature. Lena's confirmed diagnosis is "high grade signet-ring cell adenocarcinoma of unkown primary (CUP)". The oncologist is saying that Lena's cancer is not curable and is recommending palliative treatment only when or if symptoms get out of hand. Lena and Matt are still fighting the cancer through a special diet, exercise and supplement plan, with the help of a naturopathic doctor and a lot of research. Alternative therapies are also available through their naturopathic doctor, but are privately funded.
As Matt is a self-employed construction worker, he is not able to take any paid leave in order to devote his time to fully take care of the family. Along with help from family and friends, Matt has been in charge of running the household, researching and cooking for Lena's special diet, looking after their young daughters and trying to maintain a family income. At this point Lena is focusing primarily on taking care of Julie and keeping her weight up while attending ongoing appointments for both herself and Julie.
Please help us raise enough support for the Woodmass family so that Matt can care for his family during the next year without feeling the weight of providing financially. Our goal amount is $70,000, based on estimated need for the coming year. These funds will help with the general budget, increased grocery bills, quality time for the family (vacations), alternative treatments (like intravenous vitamic C), and any other needs that may arise.
