Sequoia and Lizzy's Recovery Fund

$29,770 of $50,000 goal

Raised by 340 people in 7 months
Created July 10, 2017
When we originally started this GoFundMe campaign (ORIGINAL STORY BELOW), it was focused on reuniting two surviving sisters (Sequoia-17 and Lizzy-14) with their daddy (Aleko) and older sister (Tessa), following a horrific car accident in Eureka CA, which resulted in the tragic loss of their mother (Beth) and sister (Savanna). We could have never imagined the condition that Sequoia and Lizzy would be in, following the initial battle with life threatening injuries when their vehicle rolled on to its roof, after hitting a redwood tree. Following the initial reunion of Aleko and Tessa with Sequoia and Lizzy at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Eureka CA, it was only then that the details of their current condition could be digested by the family:

SEQUOIA’S INJURIES – Age 17

Pelvic Fracture
Lumbar Spine Fracture
Pneumothorax, Right
Cervical Spine Fracture
Bilateral Pulmonary Contusion
Closed Right Tarsal Navicular Fracture
Internal Carotid Artery Dissection
Elbow Fracture
C6 Nerve Root Injury

LIZZY’S INJURIES – Age 14

Urinary Retention
Pelvic Fracture
Pelvic Hematoma
Subarachnoid Hemorrhage
Compression Fracture
Pulmonary Contusion
Right Foot Fracture

You can see from the above list of injuries, that these girls have a very long road to recovery physically, as well as emotionally dealing with the loss of their mother and sister. Sequoia, Lizzy, Aleko and Tessa were transported to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) via Wings of Grace, on 20 July 2017. It is a sincere blessing that the girls are now back on the east coast where majority of their family can begin to provide support. The road to recovery is just beginning as is the financial burden. We cannot thank everyone enough for the support that has already been given at every level, and continue to thank everyone for continued donations as we strive to rebuild this great family. The overall end state is to assist with recovery and set these girls on a glide path that lets them strive instead of surviving as they push through the cards they were dealt.  It’s amazing how these two warrior sisters have prevailed thus far, continuing to smile, love, and show amazing strength as they overcome adversity.  Their level of resilience is unparalleled.

Original Story
A loving mother and three of her beautiful daughters were on an adventure of a lifetime, a family road trip from Pennsylvania to California. They were involved in a tragic car accident that took the lives of the mother (Beth) and one daughter (Savanna) leaving two other daughters hospitalized (Sequoia and Lizzy). The surviving daughters, ages 17 and 14, are currently in Eureka, CA devastated without any loved ones by their side, currently waiting for their father (Aleko) and oldest sister (Tessa) to arrive from Pennsylvania.

We are asking for help to reunite Aleko and Tessa with Sequoia and Lizzy in California while they recover from their injuries, and loss of their mother and sister. Once healed, we will need to bring everyone home to reunite the Weib tribe after such tragic losses and start to rebuild. Please help us reunite these little girls with their daddy and older sister.  The funds raised will go directly to Tessa (oldest sister) and Aleko (father) to cover all expenses occured throughout this process.

Tessa has an update on Chubb(Stephen)....They took him off his ventilator yesterday. He is talking up a storm. He is getting some of his words mixed up but it is the first day he is really coming out of it so I think he will improve more everyday. He is extremely uncomfortable as you could imagine. It is very hard for him to find a comfortable position for his leg. He was so happy to see us and started crying as soon as we walked in. He said he is very lonely so I'm sure he would appreciate anytime anyone can visit and spend some time with him. We took him some pictures to brighten up is room. He is aware he was in an accident but does not remember any of it.

Please keep sending your positive and healing thoughts to one of our warriors. This is going to be a long road to recovery both physically and emotionally. We are so thankful for all your continued love and support!

My original draft for this update was to inform everyone of how the girls are healing, information on Beth and Savanna’s memorial and the details for the fundraisers this Saturday. Unfortunately, I am giving you more bad news…Beth and Aleko’s son Stephen (loving known by his family and friends as Chubb/Chubby) was involved in a horrific motorcycle accident Monday afternoon. Stephen and his friend collided with a truck while traveling down Route 61. Sadly, Stephen’s friend did not survive and Stephen was flown to the hospital where he is in critical but stable condition. He will be undergoing several different surgeries over the next few weeks for both fractured arms and his hips. Because of the severity of his injuries on his left side they had to amputate his leg and they are doing everything they can to save his arm. Stephen’s helmet saved his life. We will keep you updated on his condition as we know more. Please keep Stephen and the family in your prayers as they go through this difficult time and another long journey to recovery.

On a lighter note, last month both girls had surgeries to remove their stabilizing bars and Sequoia’s halo. The princess warriors are on their feet and walking again!! They started physical therapy and are working hard to make a full recovery from their injuries. They still have a long road ahead of them both physically and emotionally, but their strength is unwavering.

As for Beth and Savanna’s memorial we will keep you updated on the date. The doctors will have a better idea for Stephen’s recovery over the next few days, and we will postpone if needed until he is healed enough to attend.

If you are local to the area Tessa’s friend Kelli has arranged a special fundraising event at Rockwell’s Restaurant in Green Lane October 7th with all proceeds going to the family to help ease the financial burden of medical expenses. Below is the link with all the event information. Please please spread the word!!

I feel like a broken record but the courage, perseverance, and positive attitude everyone in this family has is beyond inspirational. The love, prayers, and support that you all have continuously shown is such a blessing and fuel for their journey of healing. Our family is forever indebted to all of you.

On Monday July 10th my Mama, my three sisters and their good friend were in a tragic car accident in Weott California. The accident took the lives of my beautiful Mama and beautiful sister Vanna. My other two younger sisters and their friend were critically injured but stable and are now all home recovering surrounded by loved ones. It is an absolute miracle we still have them with us today they are the strongest little warriors I know and continue to fight everyday to heal their bodies, I have learned so much from them through this tragedy. We got to meet and spend time with Savannas friend who was also in the accident and hear beautiful stories about our Vanna girl. Him and his family were so kind and it was an honor to meet them all. We also got the pleasure of meeting some other friends that spoke so beautifully of my Mom, Vanna and the girls and that came to visit Lizzy and Sequoia often in the hospital, friends that dropped everything to come help my family. Thank you all so much, we hope to see you all again one day. I know Vanna would have loved that we got to meet you all. There are no words to describe the pain of losing a loved one but we find comfort being by the sides of our warrior princesses and know that my Mama and Vanna are together dancing on the clouds. It is absolutely true what they say "the good die young" those two girls were the brightest most kind people I knew. They lit up every room they walked into. They made you fall in love in an instant, made you forget about every worry you ever had, would drop everything to come help anybody. Just the purest, sweetest souls in the world. They were and always will be beautiful free spirits and I will always live my life the way that they did. Everyday I will try harder to be the kind of person they were, to spread the love the way they did each and everyday. I will make sure their grandchildren and nieces and nephews know how much they loved them and teach them the lessons of love and kindness they have taught me. Hold your loved ones close and cherish every moment you have with them because life is precious and can change in the blink of an eye. I would also like to take this time to thank everyone for being there for my family. We can not express enough how thankful we are for everbodys love and support, the incredible amount of love, kind words and generosity have touched our hearts. This is the kind of love my Mama and Vanna wanted to spread across the world, that was their mission to show the world there is still so much love, to live with nothing but love in our hearts. Thank you all so much from the bottom of our hearts you're all absolutely beautiful. To my family, friends, new friends and strangers, thank you all dearly. We will be arranging a celebration of life for our Queens most likely sometime in September and will keep you all updated. It's a beautiful day!! Lizzy is busting out of the hospital today and Sequoia is following tomorrow These girls have worked so hard already but will have a long journey ahead of them. Tessa and Aleko took classes on how to administer shots and will need to take them multiple times a week to appointments. Let's take a minute to send healing thoughts, prayers, and patience through a very challenging time for the whole family as they transition from hospital to home care. We are still blown away with the generosity and support our family has and continues to receive from all of you. THANK YOU a million times over!
