My niece, Brita (Schoen) Carnine, daughter of Lynne and Marty Schoen, is dealing with a heartbreaking tragedy. On January 2, 2016, Brita’s husband, John Carnine, lost his battle with depression when he tragically took his own life.
Just a few months ago, Brita and John along with their beloved dogs, Tori and Willow, enthusiastically relocated to southern Florida with the hope for a fresh start – personally and professionally. They would have celebrated their 4th wedding anniversary on January 6th. Instead, Brita has been facing daunting challenges in her efforts to return home to Minnesota and find a way to move forward without John at her side.
Within hours of the news of this devastating loss, my sister Lynne got on the first flight available to be by Brita’s side. After days of addressing painstaking details, Brita has arrived back in MN and Lynne will be able to return soon. In the midst of this tragedy, Brita confirmed that John will continue to live on in the spirit of their little one, who is due to make his or her entrance in late July.
There are many questions, but we do know that Brita faces a number of financial challenges as she moves forward. Many of our friends and family have asked how they can help, so we have set up this account for Brita to assist her with immediate challenges. There are no words that can truly capture the sadness that we all feel, but we hope that this effort will give Brita some of the support she needs to begin again in her young life.
