WaterMats to the Flood Areas

H2O Pod, Inc., the WaterMat Company, based in the Chicago-area, wants to help in the rescue and relief mission in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.

The purpose of this campaign (our first, so we're learning) is to help defray the costs of shipping these products into the flood zones.

As a small company, we can donate only so much ourselves. Some of the costs are shipping (an average of about $130 per unit) and our actual cost of goods, which range from $300-$1000, depending on the model.

We manufacture and distribute a wide range of LARGE, DURABLE and NON-INFLATED floats and rafts typically used for family fun and recreation, such as in the image below.

But in viewing the devastating floods from the storm surge and incessant down pours, our products seem perfectly suited for rapid deployment and rescue efforts...we've received notes from customers that confirm this hunch.

The photo below shows a WaterMat Pro in an ice rescue setting.  The WaterMat Pro (and other models) float on open water to reach a stranded victim or to serve as a staging area.

Given that they are made of waterproof foam, they could even be used to bolster a sand bag retaining wall or serve as a makeshift, re-usable barrier.

The various WaterMat products range from 18-feet to 25-feet in length and most are 5-feet wide. They are weight-rated depending on thickness and overall dimension. Some are made of soft foam and others are encased in a heat-laminated tarp-like wrap .

The products are rolled-up, packed in a large box and shipped via freight...the box is about the size of a refrigerator, so the shipping and logistics from our Great Bend, KS, factory are a piece of the puzzle.

We have reached out to FEMA and to NVOAD.org , the National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters

Any and all assistance is appreciated.

Friends of the WaterMat:

As of today, we have donated five WaterMat Professional units to the recovery and rescue efforts in Houston, northern Florida and in Miami/Dade.

The retail value of these units is over $6,500 and the associated shipping costs are an additional $650.

Thanks to the generosity of our friends and family, we have raised $1,310 from GFM to fund the shipping costs.

We are participating in a planning call this evening to determine what the next steps are in all three instances, as well as if there are additional needs for more WaterMat Pro units in those areas most severely impacted by the storm..

Beyond this GFM campaign, we are also donating $100 per every WaterMat product that is ordered via www.theWaterMat.com in the month of September to the American Red Cross.

Thank you again for your generous support.

Good news...two of the WaterMat Professional units were delivered on Friday to Eglin AFB, home of the 6th Battalion training center. The units arrived about 5 PM so as Irma moves up the panhandle, they are well positioned for engagement.

Two WaterMat Professional units are now on their way to the Miami-Dade County area via express freight...the carrier forecasts a Tuesday delivery, but we're trying to improve upon that.

Given Irma's current trajectory and projected landfall of late Saturday, it is our hope that they are not further delayed in the "last mile" due to local access issues. Even with a delay of a day or two, if the experience of Harvey is any indication, these resources will still be very much in need.

Thank you for your support.

We finally secured a contact in the Miami-Dade PD and are express shipping two units this afternoon.

Our products are shipped rolled-up and in a large box about the size of a refrigerator...so you just can't drop 'em off at the local FedEx or UPS store.
