Warm Hearts
is a student run charity striving to give back to the local community. Raising money will help us fund the starting costs and expenses of launching this initiative, and as well as helping us create winter survival kits for those who are struggling on the streets. We are all humans who go through rough patches, and we'd like to remind everyone that no one will be forgotten as the cold weather approaches.

Care Packages include:
- Hats
- Scarves
- Pair of gloves
- 2 pairs of socks

Our campagin deadline is Friday, December 10th, 2016 so we can get enough time to get all of the apparel in time for when it gets really cold. We're planning to distribute these Care Packages to homeless shelters and hot soup kitchens in Toronto on New Years Eve.

Our Story:
Hello,

My name is Razi Syed and I am a first-year business technology management student at Ryerson University. On January 31st 2016 I wrote my last exam to complete my high school credits and graduate. Having a good seven months before the start of my university I decided to move to Thunder Bay to live with my cousin and his wife who had just moved up there. I arrived in Thunder Bay February 1st 2016 and whilst waiting for my cousin to pick me up at the airport I realized I hadn’t dressed for the cold Canadian north. Thankfully, my cousin arrived shortly and I was lucky enough to quickly warm up in the heated car.

I instantly became my cousin’s second hand man. His schedule was my schedule and thankfully so. He was with some of his friends discussing an initiative started by the Thunder Bay Mosque, which aimed to gather 100 scarves and distribute them in the city. I, like anything my cousin did, followed along. We sat in his living room and packed them in freezer bags adding a paper to each bag explaining the scarf as a gift. We then went at night to busy bus stops in the city and placed them so those without a scarf could easily pick them up.

Thanks to the kindness of the donors, the project garnered media attention that resulted in CBC coverage . The local news channel also followed the distribution of scarves and the video they shot went viral with about 16,000 views.

Back in Toronto as the temperatures had just started to drop, I shared my experience I had with the scarf drive in Thunder bay with some friends. A good friend of mine, Ben Copeman, suggested that we bring a similar drive to Toronto. Together we reached out to friends in Thunder Bay and in Toronto. We quickly gathered a team largely consisting of post-secondary students.  What started as an idea is well on its way to becoming a reality. The organizers are planning on expanding the scarf drive to include essential winter survival kits for the homeless and those who need it. The winter kit will include hats, gloves, scarves, and socks. Warm a heart this winter!
