My Volunteer Trip To Kenya

Donation protected
Hello! My name is Tia and I am in grade 10 at Edward Milne Community School. I come from a small, very volunteer-oriented community on the West Coast of Canada. From a young age I have had an imense interest in volunteerism. I began volunteering at the Sooke Fall Fair at the age of 7, from there on I began volunteering at Ayre Manor, a local seniors center, where I play games and visit with the elderly. Currently I also facilitate a Junior Youth Group as well as a Childrens Class. These programs are designed to assist children from the ages of 7-13 grow and develop important virtues such as honesty, kindness, service, and unity.

A few months back I was invited to attend National Philanthropy Day Youth Session - Agents Of Change, an event that took place in Victoria BC. This event was aiming to inspire the youth of today to make a difference in the world, wether it be in their community, country, or internationally. While at this confrence I heard a presentation given by Kathy LeMay, who is a internationally-recognized public speaker, philanthropic advisor, global social change fundraiser and published author. Her purpose-driven life centers on lifting up the voices, stories, leadership and influence of the world's unseen social change warriors and freedom fighters. After hearing Kathy's inspiring presentation myself, along with my friend, decided that we were going to go on a volenteer trip.

We began researching and disovered the Me To We program which sends youth around the globe in order to volunteer. My friend and I are aiming to head to Kenya in July of 2018. This program is 20 days long, and while there we will assist with building a school and digging wells. As well as visit a school, gather water with local mothers from the river, staying in tent camps, and learn Kenyan culture and traditions.

In order to embark on this life-changing adventure I need about $7000 including tax by April 9th, 2018. This will cover flights, room and board, aswell as transportation to and from the volunteer sites / activities. In order to collect more funds I am also babysitting, collecting refundables, and doing yard / house work. I realize this is not much time and many will say I'm crazy, but I'll see what I can do! Any donation would be greatly appreciated and will go to make this earth a happier place!
