Veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are coming home to Oregon. Going from service life to civilian life is not an easy process. Nearly one in three Oregon suicides is a veteran. The average annual unemployment rate for Oregon's veterans ages 20 and over was 11.4 percent in 2011. The average wait-time for a disability claim "” including mental health problems "” is 183 days, or about six months.
Who We Are
We are a group of post 9/11 military veterans committed to easing the transition of our military brothers and sisters from military to civilian life.
Our Mission
The Veterans Transition Corps (VTC) is a non-profit, non-partisan, veteran-run organization offering veterans a comprehensive set of military-to-civilian transition resources and opportunities. It is VTC's goal to strengthen and grow the veteran community in the Pacific Northwest while integrating veterans' experience and skills in a way that they can take with them into the civilian workforce.
VTC's pilot military-to-civilian transition program, Boots To Roots, aimed at providing sustainable farm and forest stewardship education and employment opportunities.
What is Green Warrior Permaculture?
Green Warrior Permaculture is a collective of sustainability specialists dedicated to solving the problems of our world through action.
We have developed effective strategies for sustainability in aid work, community development, disaster mitigation and permanent food security.
We train trainers for field work, design projects for NGOs as well as monitor and assess current programs. Green Warrior permaculture can implement projects in disaster zones, conflict zones, remote communities and poverty prone areas as well as urban and high end developments.We are sustainability specialists with the skills to impliment real solutions for the current challenges facing humanity and the planet earth at present. We are kick-ass green warriors!
