Army Veteran Facing Eviction.

Donation protected
In June of this year I was asked by the Hoarding Task Force of Allegheny County to help a women facing eviction for hoarding disorder. I have their permission to tell you their story.

She is a disabled school teacher. She suffers has suffered and been treated for OCD, PTSD, anxiety and depression for most of her adult life. The hoarding started in her early twenties. But little was known about hoarding back then. She is relieved to have finally been diagnosed for her hoard...ing disorder. She is grateful for the first time in her life to be offered help for her disorder and optimistic for a brighter, cleaner future for her and her husband.

He served this OUR country in the army as a PFC Private 1st class in the 82nd Airborne Paratrooper for a tank outfit. Her husband was an artist until he developed an eye disorder called macular degeneration.

This Friday, October 30 they will attend their final hearing for eviction. There future is uncertain. We have reached out to every known social service for help. They have a combined income of $23,000 per year, and are told they make too much money. Or, the social service doesn't follow up. Or, this couple is asked to fill out another form, or file a complaint. The task force funds are exhausted. I have agreed to continue working with them until they have the money to start giving me payments. They have incurred legal fees in access of $1,000. The lawyer has agreed to take payments. The have no money for a security deposit on another apartment. The pressure and stress of this eviction has exacerbated her OCD, anxiety and depression, there by slowing down our clean up efforts. Lately, they both were physically sick which also postponed our clean up efforts.

They are gracious people, with huge hearts and loads of compassion. And, they need our help. The money raised will not go into my purse. We need to pay the attorney, court costs, clean their carpets, sanitize the apartment; and, prepare for a move in the event we lose the hearing or can not negotiate a deal with the landlord. PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN! Thank you!!!
