Vanessa's 24-hour Paint for Wildlife Challenge!

Donation protected
For your sponsorship for my 24-hour paintathon, you will not only receive a free gift, but you will also be helping to protect the African lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, painted dogs, rhino, zebra, and many more endangered species.

My name’s Vanessa Grundy and I am a wildlife artist who is soon to start my final year studying Wildlife Conservation at university. I love to paint, and I also want to spend my life working to assist in the conservation of our planet’s biodiversity. This challenge allows me to do both at the same time!

My challenge, for which I am seeking sponsorship, is to paint as many original paintings as I can in a 24-hour non-stop paintathon. My paintathon starts at 12 noon on Sunday 26th May 2019 and will finish at 12 noon on the following Monday, which fortunately for all of us is a bank holiday!

I hope to be able to produce at least 24 paintings in 24 hours and all of the originals produced during the 24 hours will be given to the highest donators who have donated more than £30, with the most generous donator getting first choice and so on. My theme for the event is African wildlife and as many of you know, I do love to paint big cats, so there will be some big cats in the originals produced on the day.

It doesn’t stop there.  Anyone who donates £5 or more will be sent a free gift as a thank you for supporting me. – see below for what you’ll get!

·         Anyone who donates £5 or more will be sent an A4 print of your choice of two designs
·         Anyone who donates £10 or more will be sent an A3 print of your choice of four designs
·         Anyone who donates £20 or more will be sent a fabric tote bag-for-life featuring my artwork.

You can follow me live as I complete my paintathon challenge as I will be doing live video feeds via facebook and Instagram throughout the 24 hours and posting regularly on both with updates on my progress

So why am I doing this 24-hour paintathon challenge and what is your sponsorship funding?

On the 13th of July 2019, me and my partner (who is a wildlife photographer and also a fellow Wildlife Conservation student) will be travelling to Kenya to work at the Mara Naboisho Conservancy, which borders the Maasai Mara National Reserve and is one of only a few areas in Africa remaining as a refuge for large mammals.

We will be taking part in a project that’s aimed at monitoring and conserving big cats and other wildlife in the area by conducting and contributing to research of the endangered predators such as lions, leopards, and cheetahs. This is research that will contribute to park and animal management plans and so is vital to providing long-term protection for all of the endangered species in the Maasai region.

Monitoring through research is vitally important as numbers of these species have plummeted considerably worldwide due to poaching and other human activities. For example, lion numbers in Kenya have reduced by over 80% since the 1970s from around 10,000 to 1,900 at present, mainly due to poaching, habitat loss, and agricultural pesticides. The project we are working with aims to directly support lions, cheetahs, leopards and other species through conservation methods. But it also works to educate the local young Maasai children in the benefits of conservation for themselves and the wider world. Many of these children have since become tour guides and park rangers, often risking their own lives to limit the loss of wildlife due to poaching.

During our work in Kenya, alongside the active monitoring of big cat populations, we will also be contributing to the conservation education classes given at the local school (Koiyaki Guiding School) to help ensure future generations understand the importance of wildlife conservation. I would love to be able to buy, and take with me on my trip, some educational tools such as textbooks and maybe even electronic equipment, to give to the school during my visit.

Your sponsorship for my paintathon will help to fund this vitally important research trip. It will also provide more educational equipment to the local school which is fundamentally the best way to tackle the issue of conservation. The young are our future! This is why, no matter if I reach my target or not, a minimum of 10% of all your donations will go directly to the school.
