Uplifting Minds II Entertainment Conference

Donation protected
"Uplifting Minds II" (ULMII) entertainment conference was founded in 1999 in Baltimore to provide free education advice and a platform for young artists to cultivate and showcase their talents (vocals, songwriting, dance & acting) before an audience and panel of entertainment industry professionals.

Celebrating 20 years in 2019  "ULMII" is currently held annually in Los Angeles (October) and Baltimore (April).  For over 10 years it was also held annually in Houston and Atlanta. The free conference starts with a panel discussion on the business of entertainment and ends with a talent competition where one artist from each category wins the ULMII Award, as well as over $15,000 valued in prizes donated by the conference's sponsors/panelists.

Prizes range from free studio recording time, free music track, free legal advice, free legal agreement documents, free professional photo shoot, free business or public relations strategy and much more. It has media sponsors since day one which have included The Baltimore Times, The L. A. Watts Newspaper, Houston Style Magazine, Radio One, The Beat Radio, KDAY Radio, KJLH Radio, EURweb.com, Praise98FM.com, ThePulseofEntertainment.com, just to name a few.

This event continues because of those sponsors that donate or write-off the cost of the venues, the sound companies, the high-profile panelists, material and awards.

ULMII Success stories:

In Baltimore a young group that performed an original song at ULMII and Jazz (panelist) and SisQo of the platinum selling group Dru Hill was there, and SisQo used in on the 3rd CD of the group as "I Should Be "Your Boy friend)". It was the first single released from the CD and it went Platinum. The group members said they are still riding the wave of success from that "hook-up".

In Los Angeles a young singer was heard by the Senior Vice President of a major record label serving on the panel and he  signed the young artist to a record deal. That artist is Grammy winning Miguel.

In Baltimore a singer from New Jersey performed and a scout from Broadway was there in the audience. She was hired to perform on Broadway. That role lead to her being a member of an R&B group and that led to her starring role on the STARZ network series "Power." That artist is Naturi Naughton.

In Los Angeles a singer who won best vocals father/manager was at the panel discussion about the business of entertainment and said what he learned helped him take his son/client to the next level - a role on Disney's "Shake It Up" series, and that role led to him starring on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars". That artist is RoShon Feagan.

All of this and more has happened since 1999 and it is thanks to the many sponsors giving, not money, but their time, their venues, their services and their material. Imagine what this community event can do if there was a budget.

Funding, which is needed continuously throughout the year,  would not only mean the founder will not have to use her personal funds she need to live with. Funding will mean we can compensate our panelists and hosts for their time, pay for the insurance policy required by the venues (that comes out-of-pocket of founder) or provide "some" compensation to the venues or sound companies, but it will allow ULMII to bring in very High-Profile entertainment industry panelists that will help draw nationwide attention to the opportunities and education this event can bring and provide to young artists across the country. www.UpliftingMinds2.com
