Umbrella Cover Museum Storms the UK

Celebrate the Mundane! is the motto of the world’s only Umbrella Cover Museum. I am Nancy 3. Hoffman, Director and Curator of this unique and quirky museum of umbrella sleeves. It is housed in a little room on Peaks Island in the State of Maine, USA. I have had this collection for over 20 years, and it has grown tremendously as people have sent me umbrella covers from 65 different countries to date. Each umbrella cover has its own story - which makes each unique and interesting, just like people!
My collection also holds the Guinness World Record for the most umbrella covers - 730 umbrella covers counted in July of 2012. Mission Statement: The Umbrella Cover Museum is dedicated to the appreciation of the mundane in everyday life. It is about finding wonder and beauty in the simplest of things, and about knowing that there is always a story behind the cover.
It has been my goal for about ten years to take the traveling exhibit of the museum to the British Isles. Where else would it be understood and appreciated more than in the UK: home of Monty Python, a place of almost continuous rain, and home to millions of brolly users? And now after Brexit, they really need cheering up.

After a reconnaissance trip in 2016, I found Centrespace Gallery in Bristol, 6 Leonard Lane, to be the best location to host the first exhibition, from September 15 - September 27, 2017. Funds will cover airline flight to and from the UK, supplies to prepare and mount exhibit, gallery rental, payment to personnel (including volunteer expenses) for help in Bristol, lodging, on the ground transportation, and consultant fees.
