WHY?

It’s time to be honest. It’s time to face the facts. There is an epidemic of anxiety and depression spreading among youth in America and it’s time for change.

Our education system has the potential to help produce well rounded, creative, and empowered people and yet, in most cases students are anxious and have very little sense of who they are, what they are capable of and how to live a happy and healthy life.

By the time most students are in high school they are stuck in self-defeating paradigms and are being constricted by dualistic thinking. Their creativity has been outsourced by the internet and they are more concerned about being “right” and being “liked” than they are in actually learning anything. I believe we can change this by teaching students to experience their self-worth as rooted in who they are, not who they are supposed to be.

HOW WILL WE TAKE ACTION?

I am currently collaborating with a group of fellow educators to take different spiritual, emotional and physical practices and translate them into education and curriculum to best equip a young person to truly master their own lives. (for more information about my fellow collaborators check out their bio’s and websites below.)

OUR BIG PICTURE VISION FOR THE REFORM OF OUR EDUCATION SYSTEM:

Education will happen outdoors in nature.

Education will be a community event, where all the students are sharing stories, songs, dancing and authentic relating on a regular basis.

Education will be well-rounded and focus on all the different elements that make a human being happy and powerful. These will include cognitive intelligence, language intelligence, emotional intelligence, spiritual intelligence, sexual intelligence, creative intelligence, physical intelligence, health intelligence, communication intelligence, community intelligence, connection with nature intelligence and collaboration intelligence.

Education will be about bringing out the inherent power and gifts of each student. Supporting them in taking the reigns of their life, so they feel confident in doing anything they set their minds to.

Every young person has the tools to confidently navigate their ever-changing internal landscape and feel safe to express themselves authentically in any environment.

KARINA BROSSMANN

Karina has always had a passion for self-expression. From a young age, she was drawn to the performing arts and participated in any theater or singing opportunity she could find. As well as being drawn to the arts she has also been very curious about how life works and why she is on the planet. This hunger has led her to explore sacred traditions. It led her to becoming a yoga teacher, starting her own meditation practice, participating in personal and group psychotherapy and studying the transformational arts.

After gaining so much insight into life and herself she has been struck with a strong desire to serve the younger generation and give them access to a broader range of education. Her desire is for young people to start living more aware at a younger age, so they can live a more authentic life. This desire has led her to start True Voice Mentorship and to leading this project to co-create conscious curriculum for youth.

EMILY BUFFI

Emily’s first language is dancing. She can’t help but use her whole body as a tool for authentic communication and expression. She passionately believes that it’s through engaging with the world while fully in our bodies that we discover not only a richer understanding of our true selves, but gain unique tools to support emotional intelligence and social navigation. Emily facilitates embodied intelligence explorations through sensory-based nature walks, improvisational movement, spoken word, rhythm and sound gatherings, and compassionate witnessing and mirroring.

With over 15 years of dance training, a background in theater arts, and an ongoing apprenticeship with Mother Nature, Emily strives to broaden our collective capacity to listen and communicate with ourselves, and each other. Recent projects include working with Rite of Passage Journey’s and Dance Camp NorthWest and completing Authentic Facilitators Training. She facilitates monthly play-based gatherings for women and folks assigned female at birth (AFAB).

DYLAN

Dylan has been writing and delivering curriculum for youth ages 1-18 since 2002 in many different settings, including the classroom, in front of a piano, and in the shadow of the North Cascade peaks. Regardless of where the education happens, Dylan specializes in creating experiential education for children that focuses on their own ingenuity, creativity, leadership, and problem solving, called “Education for Entrepreneurship.” Dylan specializes in educating youth assigned female at birth, having worked for YMCA single-gender camps and programs focused on female empowerment and leadership for social change. Dylan believes that healing from internalized sexism is something we can do in our lifetime and that it starts with our youth. They facilitate groups for both youth and adults on multicultural and LGBTQ liberation and inclusion.
