We're Building a School!

We visited Trang Village Primary  School last week, which is located about 25 kilometers from downtown Siem Reap. We learned that the primary school houses nearly 100 students and they only receive about $125 from the government per year. There are two classrooms total; half of the students study in the morning and the other half come in the afternoon. Next to the primary building, which is for students in first through fifth grade, there's another "building" for the kindergarten students. Essentially, the kindergarteners are learning outside on a dirt floor with a tin roof covering them. During the rainy season, they are forced to learn in their own homes, in the village, due to flooding issues. Right now, there are about 20 students and they are being taught by a woman that never had the chance to finish high school. If the students can't afford to bring their own plastic chair, which they bring to and from school everyday, they have to sit on the ground. Our goal throughout all of our missions so far has been to provide a positive and healthy educational environment to promote long term educational success.

For this particular project, we are trying to raise enough funds to construct a proper kindergarten building. One that these students can learn in year round, equipped with supplies for learning, and is fully furnished. We also want to provide the primary school with clean water filters, and new supplies for both students and teachers. Another unique part of our project is that we are able to provide jobs to the local builders in the area, who may have otherwise been without work.
