Help Family Rebuild - Tonga Cyclone

My name is Amy Aossey, the fiancé of Tevita Hala Kaipelea.  Tevita asked me to marry him last November in Sedona, Arizona.  We will be married on June 9th of this year.  He is my blessing and has shown me how it feels to be loved in a way I have never known.  His love for his family is one of his most endearing characteristics for me.

At a time that we celebrate our love and look forward to our future, it is also a very sad day; a day when Tevita is fearful of the loss and devastation of his home.  Fear of the unknown and unsure of his families safety.

I am reaching out to this online community with a request for help to raise funds for my love's family in Tonga... to help rebuild their life and offer some financial support for the long road ahead.  I know how giving and caring his family is... I know in my hear that any help the Kaipelea family will receive is bound to extend far beyond their own needs and will be shared throughout the community.

Tevita is from the big island of Tonga where family cares for each other until the final breath.  I understand this culture to be beautiful and humble - with hearts as big as they come.  These islands are home to beautiful people that survive on small farming agriculture.  My love has shared with me the stories of growing up in a large family with a father who farmed his land with coconut, mango, corn and other produce native to the island.  Tevita and his brothers worked on the family farm beside their father to nurture and harvest produce for his mother to sell at the local market.  He has shared stories with me of himself as a young boy climbing a coconut tree and picking the fruit for a snack to curb his hunger.  This is only one example of the natural beauty and humble  life of the Tongan people.

The direct hit of Cyclone Gita to Tonga on February 12th has been reported to have flattened the Parliament House and damaged most of the homes on the big island.  This is the worst tropical force to hit this island in over 60 years.  Although there has not been direct communication as of the time this is posted, we know the deviation is severe and vast.

My heart is heavy for my new family, a family that I have not yet met, but feel like I know through my love's eyes.  The same family that comes together to help each other no matter what the challenge and no matter where they are in the world.  My heart breaks knowing what his brothers, sister, nieces, nephews and dear friends will be dealing with in the coming months.

I focus my life working for a nonprofit organization that helps to prevent hunger in Yavapai County Arizona where 1 out of 3 children are food insecure.  I see hungry children and people in need every day.  Because of this, I know the power of joining together to make a difference.

Please consider joining me with donation to help bring water, food, supplies, materials and other needs to these beautiful people of Tonga... people who woke today to find a world void of the natural resources they are so dependant on... a very devistating reality.

Only yesterday we were focused on celebrating our upcoming wedding... somehow it just doesn't seem right to have the same focus today.  Now the priorities must shift... please help bring love, comfort and resources to the family who is in the midst of this terrible disaster.

Many blessings and thanks... Amy & Tevita
