Tommy's Ashes to India & Michigan

Donation protected
Thank you to everyone who has contributed. The funds you have contributed have allowed our family to pay for Tommy's cremation, Memorial Service as well as living memorials in his memory.

Having exhausted these funds in taking care of Tommy, we are looking for support of any amount to help get his ashes to India next month and Michigan next Spring or Fall. If we could raise an additional $2000 to get the total raised to $10, 600 that would be amazing.

A beautiful Mural has been painted at Bethune where he taught, as well as a memorial bench that sits across from the Mural (thank you Bethune faculty and parents!!) The Jacaranda tree where Tommy taught outdoor Yoga for the community at Olivewood Gardens has also been dedicated to Tommy. (Thank you Healy!) Pictures of these memorials are in comments.

The remaining few hundred dollars raised so far will be donated to the 6th grade camp program at Bethune for scholarships to students who cannot afford to pay for this memorable and traditional 6th grade experience which Tommy loved SO much! We were hoping to continue the Yoga Club but unfortunately there is not another certified Yoga instructor on staff at Bethune to take over the program. Therefore 6th grade camp support made the most sense as to where Tommy would have liked the remaining donations to go.

The additional $2000 we hope to raise would provide us the funds needed to take his ashes to the Ganges next month during Diwali in the city of Varanasi. Diwali is an event which Tommy appreciated where there is an overall symbolization of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, good over evil, hope over despair. Although this is celebrated throughout the country in October, the holiest of celebration is in Varanasi, so this is where we will take part of his ashes and release into the Ganges River. Thank you to dear family friends Suzette and Manny for taking this journey with Tommy. <3

The rest of his ashes will be spread across the United States on a road trip either in Spring or Fall, ending up at the final destination in Michigan.

Even $5 or $10 is so appreciated and will help us finalize Tommy's journey. Thank you all so much for your support! Much love. <3

On behalf of our big bro Tommy Flanagan, we are setting this fundraiser up for his Memorial Service and Living Memorial. Tommy suffered a massive heart attack on Tuesday January 10th while out taking a walk. He was given CPR by a man who saw him lying on the sidewalk and was rushed into surgery where they removed a 100% blockage in his heart. Unfortunately, there was significant brain damage and we had to let him go last night, January 14th at 10:15pm.

Tommy was an amazing person, a loving son, a loyal brother and the best middle school teacher. He was "that" teacher the students would confide in, they loved and trusted him and he loved them back 1000% more. He was passionate about his beliefs and compassionate to everyone. He established an after school Yoga program at his school and helped so many students heal and release stress at the end of the day with this program. He recently returned from Standing Rock where he worked hard to help the water protectors and was looking forward to getting back with the protectors this spring and summer.

The funds raised for Tommy will be used for his memorial service and also we would like to set up a Living Memorial of a tree and/or bench at the school where he taught so his former and current students can have a place to reflect and remember him. Remaining funds will be used to fund the Yoga program he established and donated to Standing Rock.

Thank you so much for your support. As Tommy always told his students when the bell rang, "Go tell someone you love them today!" Fly high big bro and float swiftly, River Peace baby. <3
