What is Homeward Bound 2019?
Homeward Bound 2019 is a groundbreaking leadership, strategic, and scientific initiative which will bring together 80 female scientists from all over the world to partake in a year-long transformative program. Studying climate change science and participating in leadership building activities in efforts to influence policy and decision making regarding climate change will be featured. The culminating event is a 14-day expedition to Antarctica in January 2019.

My Background
I am an alumna of Spelman College, an all female Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in Atlanta, GA, USA where I received my B.S. in Chemistry. I then went on finish my M.S. in Polymer Chemistry at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Currently, I am a doctoral student at Prescott College studying Sustainability Education.
My research investigates the utilization of sustainability education in efforts to broaden participation, increase retention, and create opportunities for contribution for women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).
Goals for the Program
Climate change and the ramifications it is having on our planet deeply resonate with me. It is imperative that we actively inform and educate the next generation of scientific innovators to address these challenges. It is equally important that historically underrepresented groups, namely women, are included in the discussion to find solutions. Women and diverse thoughts are needed to lead the quest to remedy climate change. The opportunity to study climate science, explore Antarctica, and experience the front lines of climate research will be a highlight of my career.
My estimated cost for the expedition is $20,000.

$2,000 for specialty gear and equipment
