Habitat for Humanities trip/S Afrca
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Tiffany Padilla. I am 25 years old and currently serving on active duty in the US Air Force. Last year, July 13th, 2014, my younger brother, who followed my footsteps and joined the US military, passed away. During his childhood he overcame many hardships. Later, he bravely joined the US military and even proudly served in Afghanistan to support Operation Enduring Freedom. Although he had a hard exterior at times, deepdown he was a caring and thoughful person. In fact, a week before he passed away he told me about how he gave his last $20 to a homeless man he saw on the street and of course asked me for $50 so he could last until his next paycheck. As his big sister, he knew I would always be there for him.
This July will mark the one year anniversary of his death. In honor of my baby brother i would like to give back to people and their families who are less fortunate. This year I chose a Habitat for Humanities event. Nelson Mandela International Day is an UN-established international holiday celebrating Mandela’s life and legacy of humanitarian action. Habitat South Africa’s Mandela Build celebrates the ability and responsibility that we all have to impact positive change each day. Volunteers from around the world come together and assist in building homes with a community in Cape Town. The program will run from July 11th - 19th 2015 which falls directly on the 1 year anniversary of my brother's death.
The program cost and my airfare comes out to a little over $4,000. I would like to ask for your help in achieving my goal. Your contributions will not only help me get to Cape Town, South Africa but also help Habitat for Humanity serve more than 300,000 families this year.
