The Cervantes Kids
Rachelle, our beloved friend, mother, sister, daughter and cousin, had her life taken away far too early. She leaves behind her pride and joys - her 4 children ages 11, 6, 4 and 2. Her children are now left without either of their parents or their grandfather, and we want to continue to raise her children in the way she would have wanted. Your donation will be used to provide financial stability for their education.
We appreciate the outpouring of love, prayers and support from her family and friends from around the world. Please continue to send your blessings for her little ones and family.
*note: Regarding the funds, we can promise you that they will go directly to the kids. Rachelle is my first cousin. While I am simply managing the site, the funds will be handled by Rachelle's mother and sister and will be specifically for the childrens' education. We appreciate your concern regarding this matter.
There wasn't a dry eye in the house as Taps rung through the church and the American flag was presented to Cherrie for Ralph's service in the Navy. We had the blessing of hearing Ralph's voice fill the reception hall as friends presented Cherrie with a CD of Ralph karaoke-ing, as he was unknowingly recorded. Both of their signature smiles flashed on screen during the slideshow which highlighted how loved they truly were.
I am venturing to say there were more smiles than sobs today, especially from the kids. While there is a long road of recovery ahead, we are all so grateful for everyone sharing their memories of Rachelle and Ralph to keep them alive and smiling in our hearts.
Thank you all again for your positive thoughts and generosity to support the kids' futures. It means the world to us.
I have been sent several private messages and emails through this site, many with common themes, so I wanted to address them:
Q: How can I be confident the money will go to the kids? What will the funds be used for?
A: I can assure you this is going to be used to support the kids as a separate account has been created by their maternal grandmother. In memory of both Rachelle and her dad, Ralph, the funds will be used strictly for their future education. Before their lives were taken, Rachelle was actively working towards her PhD and Ralph had a Masters in Business Management, attended the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard, and was retired from the US Navy. We are confident that both of them would want the funds to be used for the education of the four children.
Q: What happened to the parents?
A: On Thursday, July 23, a tragic event took place at Rachelle’s parents’ house where Rachelle was staying at the time. Thankfully, Rachelle’s mom, Cherrie, and the 4 kids went to a room upstairs just minutes before the unthinkable happened. The story can be found here: http://www.dailyrepublic.com/news/crimecourts/police-vallejo-murder-suicide-claims-3rd-life/
The family wishes to keep only the positive thoughts and memories of Rachelle and Ralph in our minds and as we speak to the kids. We ask that everyone do the same.
Q: What else can I do to help?
A: Your thoughts and prayers are very much appreciated. To help, please continue to share the site and raise funds for the future of Rachelle’s kids. Many of you have offered playdates, school supplies, dinners, etc. If we haven’t already, we will get back to your specific requests as soon as we can. I will continue to update the site with examples of the amazing generosity of everyone around us, as well as pictures of the kids!
Recently, the kids were recently taken on a clothing excursion by a few of the kids’ teachers where they purchased clothing for all of the kids. The story alone warms my heart and shows how everyone comes together in a time of need.
We cannot thank you enough for all the positivity you have all sent to the Cervantes family.
Within a week, all of our friends, family and everyone who generously donated has raised $35,000 to help financially support the kids. We can’t thank you enough for your generosity. We hope you continue to share this site to provide some financial stability for the family when they have lost so much.
Update on Cervantes kids: the kids are doing fine, so far. We have been occupying their minds with cousin sleepovers, games, jump houses, playgrounds, fairs, etc. They were told about their Mother, Rachelle and their Grandfather, Ralph who was still in the hospital, with the help of Pastors, Counselors, my husband & I, Cherrie & her other daughter, Charlynne. They were later told that their Grandfather joined their Mother in Heaven. What is next? After the cousins leave to go home is going to be different. We are looking into counseling or whatever we need to do to make their lives back to normal. How can we tell these kids, who witnessed and heard enough? How can we tell them the truth? GOD, please help us. Please pray for Cherrie ( Ralph's wife) and the kids and also for the soul of Ralph & Rachelle. Thank you.
Mrs. Cervantes, We were shocked to hear from our daughter, Tia, of Rachelle's and your husband's death. Our children were in school on the base with Rachelle. My husband, Tom Rosedahl, worked at the Army Veterinary Clinic on base in Iwakuni. He says he worked closely often with your husband in coordinating both of their missions on the base. Our sincere condolences on your losses. We hope you make the goal and more on this gofundme site . Sharron Rosedahl
