My name is Mike Crabill. I’m a 62 year old veteran of the US Air Force, married, and disabled. Before becoming disabled several years ago I worked with the two things I love most: airplanes and electronics; my specialty being autopilot repair on General Aviation aircraft.
So, why am I appealing to you for help? I certainly wish I didn’t have to. Ongoing health issues prevent me from being able to work at all. The most recent episode: I recently underwent heart surgery to replace a bad heart valve and then 3 days later had a pacemaker put in. The day after I got home from the hospital, I fell and trashed my knee bad enough to require the services of a wound care specialist. I'm now almost immobile and in recovery mode…again. My problems all stem from a doctor that over-dosed me with steroids, which have compromised my endocrine system, caused Glaucoma and I'm blind in one eye and poor vision in the other eye. My bones are brittle and I have a broken back and shoulder. The list goes on, but you get the idea, life has become a major challenge!
Before my heart problem and surgery we were working hard on improving our credit and making good headway. Now, the bills are piling up and it's amazing the amount that Medicare doesn't cover! Being disabled allows me to use Medicare for which I’m thankful but I’m not old enough to qualify for Medigap coverage which pays the 20% Medicare doesn’t cover. As the bills come in we’re trying to manage things so we can still cover our rent, food, prescriptions and all the other necessities of life. The problem is there just isn't enough income from my disability to cover everything that needs to be paid.
So here we are…the hard part; asking strangers for help. First and foremost we appreciate the assistance we've received thus far; thank you so much to those who’ve reached out and helped. My hope is that you too will be moved to assist someone in need. Anything you would be willing to contribute will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
