I have twin 5 year old boys with autism....
and a 3 year old girl....
The twins were 6 weeks early and Jeffrey weighed less than 3 pounds. Jeffrey stayed in the NICU for two weeks. He had hernia surgery as a baby and wore a helmet for a mis-shapened head. He gets sick a lot and has asthma. He seizes when his fevers are high. He has a lot of sensory issues, ADHD, and a mood disorder. He struggles with most things and has several meltdowns a day.
I have been fighting for services for Jeffrey since he was diagnosed at age 3. Currently he has no IEP in place and I am fighting for disability and waiver services. These services would provide many things, one of which is ABA therapy. ABA therapy would greatly benefit my son but I cannot afford it without the disability and waiver services being in place.
Like all children, Jeffrey can be very affectionate and helpful. But unfortunately he has constant struggles due to his conditions. I believe an Autism Service dog would benefit my son in countless ways on a daily basis. The dog would be a member of our family and receive our love and affection, but he would be providing us with so much more. He would be the answer to our prayers. This dog would provide great emotional support, help Jeffrey remain calm, provide sensory relief, keep him from wandering off, and be a protector to Jeffrey.
As I’m sure you know Autism Service dogs are expensive. I am disabled and my husband is a retired marine with a TBI and PTSD. We struggle financially because of my being disabled and because my husband was just recently able to return to work after falling 20 feet from a ladder. Therefore, my family and I are asking for you to donate anything you can to help our son. No amount is too small to make a huge difference to us!!!
