Every year the Christmas season comes around and there are families in the Halifax Regional Municipality who have may not have the opporutntiy to enjoy a Christmas meal on December 25th. Although the Christmas holidays are an exciting time with food, fun and family, not everyone shares the same excitment.
The Give BACK believes that ALL of us can play a role in ensuring that those around us are doing living well. We believe that taking a collective responsibility to ensure our friends in our communities across HRM are doing well is what this initiative is all about.
What Happened in 2016?
In 2016 The Give BACK raised approximately $1,700 from 70 community member donations in the Halifax Reginal Municipality. The money raised helped provide 17 families across HRM with a Christmas meal and a $40 gift card for the grocery store. Each family received a $25 turkey, stuffing, potatoes, carrots, turnips, sweat potatoes, butter, chocolates & candies, cranberry sauce, canned corn & peas and a $40 gift card just in case we forgot anything! The Give BACK 2016 also donated approximately 150 pounds of canned goods to Feed Nova Scotia on the Bedford Highway.
It is amazing when we all come together! This year we are looking to improve on our efforts from 2017. Although monetary donations are the cornerstone of this initiative community can also take part by spreading the word through social media, at your work place or in your community.
We want to make this Christmas a special one for as many families across HRM as we can!
