Swimming In Silence

I am Micki Poole. I attempted to cross the Anacapa Channel in early September 2014.  I would have continued my attempt but I was pulled at mark approx 4.4 mile due to shivering from the cold water.  I am currently training for the next 7-8 months.  I was born deaf.  I can do anything but hear.  Since I saw Mark Spitz swimming the butterfly event in the Olympics Trial in 1972, I started swimming on a team for many years round.  I cannot live without water because I'm fond of swimming.  Swimming is my life.  I continue swimming until I reach the age of 100 hopefully.  My favorite quote is "The water is your friend....you don't have to fight with water, just share the same spirit as the water, and it will help you move."  I am not giving up and want to return to do 2nd attempt again because my goal is that if I make the 12.4 miles, I will be the first deaf swimmer in the Santa Barbara Channel Swimming Association history to accomplish this channel.

I am asking you to help me raise funds for a boat, hotel for crew, food for crew, and interpreting service.  I already spent over $2,000 for all of them by myself.  For all who can contribute, even $5, $10, or more.  THANK YOU.

Hello... I let you know I made it successfully on my Anacapa Channel crossing on Saturday September 12, 2015. I'm the first deaf swimmer of the Anacapa Channel of SBCSA (Santa Barbara Channel Swimming Association. Accompanied by a stampede of dolphins, a baby grey whale, and a friendly thresher shark. I finished in 7:02.45 (7 hours 2 min 45 seconds).

I will collect more pictures & videos and then will write about my good experience within next week.

Hi! I am ready to go crossing Anacapa Channel swim this Saturday morning September 12th. Here 2 "live" GPS Trackers will be on at 6:00 A.M. (Pacific Time Zone). In case one of two GPS Trackers happens to be stopping, then other one is safe and not lost tracking my swim all the way. Definitely we will post you again sometimes this weekend.

I believe in myself, I hopefully make it to the mainland from Anacapa Island. One of my crew will join me swimming as he helps me pace swimming sometimes.

Hello! I have had been training a lot all this summer. It wasn't easy for me due to busy full schedule between 2 jobs and training swimming, but at least it's worth it. On Saturday August 8th, I continued swimming for almost 6 hours. I practiced being fed every 30 minutes like a channel swim feeding. When I was done, I made 12 miles under six hours. After Horsetooth 10K race on August 23rd, I will have one more week of hell hard training and will go back to the cold lake again like 1 or 2 more times.

The other night when I slept, I dreamed of making it to the shore from Anacapa Island. One of my crew said dreams come true.

Please share this link with everyone in public. I want to thank you for helping me. You all mean a lot to me.

I got a certified interpreter named Beth who is a triathlete and a good swimmer. I want to thank the DSU (Deaf Services Unlimited) for helping me find one of interpreters. Beth and I are a good match because we have a lot in commons and we make a good team for Anacapa Channel Swim. I sent my application to the SBCSA. GOOD NEWS: I recently got approved for my 2nd attempt channel swim.

I am required to train in the colder water a lot of times. I am going to the lake in Littleton, Colorado on Saturday morning May 2nd as first day of open water. I am looking forward to training in the lake better than the indoor pool.

Again, I'm asking you to help me raise funds. Please share this link with people in the whole world. For all who can contribute, even $5, $10, or more. THANK YOU.
