Marissa and Jamie's Senior Capstone

Donation protected
This film is close to my heart because I want to bring to light the pressures and expectations embedded in the cultural and societal norms of religious communities and how succumbing to those pressures and expectations can diminish a person’s mental health. We would like to create a film that will bring our viewers through a day in the life of someone dealing with depression. This film is aimed to open the eyes of our audience in the hopes that someday each one of us can help someone in need of support.  We would love to show this film in festivals after our graduation and hopefully reach more people.

Your contributions will go towards transportation of crew, cast, and equipment for two consecutive weekends or filming.  Contributions will go to set design, props, and costume design in the preproduction phase of the film. Funding will go to feeding our cast and crew who have donated their time and skills to the creation of this film. Funding will also go to miscellaneous necessities for the successful production of Suraj.

What We Need
The majority of our funding will go to feeding our cast and crew on production days. We have organized our production so that our crew consists of volunteer students, in-kind equipment rentals from the cinematic arts and technology department, and donated locations for production filming. What we need are the small yet necessary pieces to the puzzle; cutlery for meals, costumes, set dressing, props, sunscreen, food, water, gas for transportation, permitting fees, and other production materials.

Our funds will go directly into our production, any left over funds will go to the applications for film festivals after we graduate.

Impact
This project will take our audience a step into the life of someone dealing with depression and thoughts of suicide. Our hope is that we will reach those in need of help and those who are needed for support. The value of this film is difficult to measure on a personal level but we hope it opens the hearts of many.

Risks & Challenges
Marissa and Jamie have worked previously on capstone for the past one to two years, facing obstacles and learning from other mistakes and victories. They have both narrowed down the roles they would like to specialize in after graduation and have pursued these aspirations in their classes as well as other student thesis films. Every film comes with its own set of challenges. Anything that can go wrong will go wrong is a frequent saying in our industry. We have faced many challenges in each semester completed, in each film created, in each story written. What we have learned is that it is of utmost importance to tell a story of truth, tell a story that means something to you, tell a story that is personal. We intend to accomplish our goal in impacting the audience with this truth, this importance, this personal story of Suraj.
