Summer's Project

$2,580 of $3,000 goal

Raised by 45 people in 13 months
New Years Day 2015, Summer (only 10 years old at the time) was tragically hit by a car while playing outside in her neighborhood, she was rushed to the hospital by ambulance.  Check us out on Facebook  to like & follow Summers progress Facebook.com/SummersProject    Once released she was bound to a wheelchair then relied on the use of a walker for months.
29162186_154669419267347_r.jpegDespite everything, the level of care provided to Summer, and her family during such a difficult time was unbelievable. If it was not for the level of care she received her recovery may not have been the same. Wink news will be doing a video segment on her sometime this month or next to share her story, and she has been invited to now be in a video for the hospital's child life team. (See News Article At Bottom of Story) Summer is known for her passion to help others, her efforts witnessed as she goes above and beyond when given a chance to volunteer or put together a charity event. Summer is also an A+ student who somehow manages to take on being class president, being an honor roll student, completing with A’s high school classes done online. Being a competitive travel athlete and on the fields, up to 5-7 days a week, somehow also finds time to volunteer and put together her own event to give back. As you can imagine something such as getting HIT BY A CAR is enough to make you APPRECIATE a lot of things in LIFE. Such a tragic event especially for a CHILD to go through.

Summer wanted to GIVE BACK to those who helped her get back on her feet, she was determined to start her own foundation ‘Summers Project’.   From there she has made it a goal to put on an annual bake sale, Cookies for a Cause, that donates the proceeds to the Children’s Hospital, for their child life team. The first year they sold cookies and lemonade on the front yard and made a measly $75 to donate. In 2017 Summer hosted one bake sale which was a huge success. Over 250 baked items were sold, utilizing resources through social media word spread quickly, we ended up baking and sold out... every crumb sold! The feedback from the community was unbelievable.

Her total amount raised in 2017 was $450 which was then matched by  a generous local company  making the new total  to $900! On March 30th 2018 Summer presented a check to The Lee Health Foundation for the Golisano Children Hospital of SWFL Child Life Team for $900!

Summer has plans to grow this event by continuing to spread the awareness and increase donations each year. Our 2018 GOAL was set to $1500.  On June 28th 2018 Summer hosted a Summer Bake Sale @ The Fort Myers Brewing Company. Several hospital staff including CHILD LIFE team members stopped by to show us some love. Many moms came up to us simply to say THANK YOU & we EXCEEDED our 2018 goal!

The Child Life Team really does so much but primarily they help reduce a childs anxiety, fear, and even pain while a child is admitted to a hospital. They see to it the childs emotional well being is cared for and make things fun. To a child who is badly sick or injured in pain and scared, having an amazing child life team takes the fear and anxiety out of their stay and allows them to take their minds off their stay and feel like a kid.  In order to have an amazing child life team, they need your donation to help fund the activities and supplies. Summers Project, is very dear to us all, we see this continuing to grow into one day something very big.
