Save 2183 Mission st Art Space!
I don't know where to start, but here is a list of what might shut us down, and yes it all has to do with money, which for us, as a "for the people/DIY" attitude is something that controls our destiny, and the future of all artists trying to showcase their talent, at, if not, they only all ages venue in San Francisco.
*We got hit from the city for building permits they claim we never applied for, they are trying to fine us a huge amount if we do not comply.
*We have hired a architect who has been meeting with the city for the past year, to start construction, and to be up to code. We are charged everytime he meets with the city planners.
*Upon approval, we will need to do the required construction and purchase materials, for which we will be closed, and not be able to host normal shows, thus preventing us from making rent or paying our employees.
*As of April 15th, our rent has been raised an additional $3,000.00! If we dont have it, we will be forced to shut our doors. The thing is, with the above listed problems, we cant make rent without being open, and we can't be open to make rent because of the building permits, and cost associated with.
We are really stuck in a catch 22 situation, but the main thing for us is to make rent, so we don't lose our space, which has done so much, for so many people through out the almost 20 years we have been existing in the Mission District.
Any and everything will help us stay a float. Our goal is set at a amount that would get us through the end of April/mid June, any more would make our headache go away a little more.
We thank all of you for all your years of support, and hope to bring you many more. Especially for the youth of today, who need a place to showcase and support their talent.
I am a supporter of this space, and am doing this fundraiser as an Independent person outside of the space. Funds will be tranfered to the space upon the disolval of any and all legal actions taken place against the so named space.
***WE STILL NEED YOUR DONATIONS DESPERATELY!!
*We finally got approved, from the city, to start construction for a required fire wall that we have been trying to do for over a year!
To purchase the permits and job card to start, it will cost us $15,000! This is not including materials or labor.
After the construction is completed, we can sell the restaurant, which is attached to us, and use that money to complete what we need to do to stay open.
***PLEASE TELL PEOPLE TO DONATE!!!!PLEASE!
THANK ALL OF YOU WHO HAVE GIVEN ALREADY!!!
We are working hard to do all that we can to comply with everything that is needed. We just had some new headaches come our way, but will still march forward with our fight!
On a side note, just my opinion, I cant believe a pizza place that refuses to serve the gay community raised over $40,000 in a week, and we barely made $5,000 in a month, as a means of supporting the arts in San Francisco.
Sub/Mission is now closed. I hear they are trying to find a new space. Is this fundraising campaign still affiliated with Sub/Mission, and will the money raised here be going to a new space? Can you clarify? You should update this page to reflect what is going on, now. I would like to direct people to this page and help out.
