I have a dental disease which not only has taken a toll on my health, it is now life threatening as well. There is family history on both sides of my family of heart disease which killed my father at age 54, and both grandmothers. My blood pressure has been as high as 212 over 112. I also suffer from the pain of a horse riding accident when I was seventeen, when my leg was broken and my foot severed. I was virtually put back together and I was told that I would not be able to stand for prolonged periods of time. Until recently I was able to manage the pain, stand and stay focused particularly when I am creating.
I am a stained glass artist, creating stained glass windows and doors in particular. You can see my art on YouTube where I am known as Dichroic Glassman On my You tube Channel I also teach others the art of stained glass,and have received validating feedback from many who have learned their craft though my videos, and who enjoy the art I have created every day.
Now I am concerned that the infection in my mouth will go to my heart. A friend of mine who is a nurse, and has taken care of and supported me at the worst of times wrote this:
“Steven is a warrior who is sovereign and independent and does not ask for help, but he needs our support now. Steven has a Dental disease that has diminished his strength and his health. He has experienced two severe illnesses recently. The first infection went systemic ( into his blood stream) and affected his muscles and kidneys. He ran high fevers for multiple days and was incredibly ill. The second infection was much worse. When his kidney function decreased, his muscles went into severe spasms and the fever was high again. His body has been affected with joint swelling and pain. A strong muscular man, he has lost weight, strength and stamina. His infection, though clear now, will return unless the dental situation is corrected with extractions, crowns and plates. The bone tissue surrounding the teeth continues to deteriorate. The greatest concern now is that another infection will damage his heart, or cause pericarditis.“
I do not have Dental Insurance, and all costs are out of pocket. The raw materials of a stained glass artist are expensive, and consistently rising, and I do not have savings. I contacted a local Dental Clinic, but they will only do extractions and the bone is not stable enough. I have gotten estimates of $50, 000 to 52,000 to have the work done in the United States. The last dentist I saw said the disease is advancing and I do not have much time left. I have researched having the work done in Costa Rica as the cost is much lower.
I am a stain glass artist, a builder and photographer who thrives on creating and sharing. I have a lot more to learn and to share, and look forward to continued creating and motivating others to generate stained glass art as well. With your support I can make this desire a reality. I am not ready to give up. I envision myself continuing to bring an appreciation to others for the light and color of dichroic stained glass panels. I see myself in the future surrounded by the animals I love and care for, discovering, creating and sharing as a result of your recognition of my gifts and talents.smiling… free of pain and strong in creating with a deep appreciation for your support.
Many of my friends have told me not to be so giving of my time and talent. ( One of them even suggested I include this paragraph) They notice that I am the ”go to guy” who will drop my needs to help another. I tell them that seeing others happy, when I share my creative gifts and abilities, offer my physical strength, and share insights, and the spiritual knowledge I reveal to others from interpreting their name, is my greatest joy. At this time, however, I am humbled by asking for your help. Through fear and distress, I recognize the profound meaning in the words,” we are all connected.” Through pain I have grown in ways I could not have imagined. Now is the time that I must ask for help to survive, and I am profoundly grateful for this opportunity to do so. I have a lot more to give, and cherish the opportunity to do so.
