NAMI NKY is established to serve residents of the Northern Kentucky area who are experiencing mental or emotional illnesses or challenges, and to assist them and their families in confronting and alleviating those challenges. We provide individuals with mental illness with a number of resources that they need to understand and cope with their situations.
NAMI NKY is an affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, Inc. (NAMI). NAMI is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. NAMI advocates for access to services, treatment, supports and research and is steadfast in its commitment to raising awareness and building a community of hope for all of those in need.
From its inception in 1979, NAMI has been dedicated to improving the lives of individuals with mental illness and their families.
NAMI NKY is also affiliated with NAMI Kentucky, the state-wide organization. All of us work in conjunction to serve individuals with mental illness and their families in our areas.
We also work at times in conjunction with Mental Health America and with NorthKey, the Northern Kentucky community care organization responsible for furnishing basic care to those with mental illness and intellectual disabilities. These organizations also provide a wide variety of services for individuals with mental illness and their families.
The families and members of NAMI Northern Kentucky are here to help! We offer understanding to anyone concerned about mental illnesses and the treatment of mental illness.
Mental illnesses are brain disorders that are biologically based medical problems. Untreated, they can cause severe disturbances in thinking, feeling and relating. This results in substantially diminished capacity for dealing with the ordinary demands of life. Mental illness can affect persons of any age and occur in any family. They are not caused by bad parenting and not evidence of weakness of character.

Advocate at the county, state and national levels for non-discriminatory access to quality healthcare, housing, education and employment for people with mental illness.
Educate the public about mental illness.

Advocate for increased funding for research into the causes and treatment of mental illness.
