This friendly coffee stop is in the church of St Aidan’s, Morebattle .The church (deconsecrated) is currently being restored. We are a CIC – a Community Interest Company. This means we are a Not for Profit organisation. Proceeds are used for restocking; excess goes to continuing renovations of the building. In the long term, proceeds go back to the community.
We are launching this appeal because we need to cater for bigger groups, we need more seating, a kitchen to enable us to provide our own food; we need good toilet facilities.
We provide a service to the local community and tourists, especially to St Cuthbert’s Way walkers as we are ideally situated on the Walk itself, providing rest before the hill climb to Yetholm.
Plans for the building have been drawn up.
The aim is to raise £70,000, the current estimate of the proposed improvement.

Hi Everyone,
It has been a while, but I have been off sick with chemo again, and keeping up with all of the things is tricky. I have to tell you that we have had a busy summer in the Coffee Stop and Richard has been busy in the main church making a floor for the cafe to move into as soon as we can.

I know it seems as though we are going two steps forward and one step back, but the progress is always forwards, and we are still looking forward to creating something beautiful for God.

A place of rest and restoration. A place of hope and of life.

We do hope you will come and see our progress and our Very Good coffee and cakes.

Blessings,
Margaret

Hello Everybody,

We had a really good day yesterday with a group of ten pilgrims who came for lunch. They sat out in the sunshine as it was such a lovely warm day. We do hope that their ongoing walk is wonderful, just as we do for all of our visitors.

I would like to share an entry that we had in our visitors book this week:

'It's so great to see what you're doing to bring this lovely place back to it's original use. Good luck and God bless you and your efforts.' Geoff and Kath, Nr Chester.

Please remember every donation counts - no donation is too small! Many thanks

Hello Everyone,

The weekend is past and we hope that the 15 Norwegian and Swedish Pilgrims will be well on their way to Lindisfarne by now. The weather is cool, but not unpleasant - probably quite good walking weather as long as the rain holds off. I have to say their visit on Saturday was such a treat, and we thoroughly enjoyed meeting with them again. Next year they say that they might come through twice! Lovely!
Sadly I did not get some photos of them - I was too busy enjoying that they were here.

Today, we are back to work. Richard is busy working on the pointing. He is starting on the second (lower) half of the wall that I showed you a photo of the last time.

And St Cuthbert has migrated inside and is sitting in the boat.

Please remember to share this, and if you can, to contribute to this important restoration work. The original congregation and Thomas Pilkington deserve for this building to be saved and to be used as a place of worship, hospitality and hope again.

Hello Everyone, we had two very special visitors today Jacqui Durocher and her very good friend Sheila from Edinburgh way. We really enjoyed showing them around, and letting them see our work-in-progress.

I have to show you the progress that Richard has made on the eastern wall. He has scraped it out, repointed it, brushed it clean, washed it, and is now lacquering it. You can see the difference between it and the wall at the bottom, which he has not started yet. Every time we progress it makes the whole church look a little more loved and cared for.

Please help us to reach our goal and get the much needed money to complete the restoration.
The soon-to-be Revd Jacqui

Come and join us for a cuppa!
